YES - Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco, CA - 03/10/1972
Artist: Yes
Location: Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco, CA
Date: 10th March 1972
Another good audience recording from the Bruford years, considering the fact that it's 1972.
It almost sounds like the auditorium is half empty, which I doubt.
Sound sample is in the comments section as usual.
This is taken from the Japanese boot 'Fragile At Winterland' on the Blue Cafe label.
The 61 minute/29 minute split between disc is theirs, not mine.
I've checked the tracker and cannot find this show, so I hope to avoid another 'Yale Bowl' fiasco!

HILLBENDERS – Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry
Hillbenders – Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry (2015)
Forty-five years after its initial release, The Who’s rock opera TOMMY has been transformed by The Hillbenders into a full-length bluegrass tribute with all of the original record’s energy, instrumental showmanship, and rock star vocals in tact. Originally recorded with a full rock band, the dynamic bluegrass quintet recreated the legendary album with a banjo, Dobro, mandolin, bass, and guitar. The “Bluegrass Opry,” as its been dubbed, brings a new perspective to TOMMY while paying homage to its creators.

"The Gates of the Stellar Attraction at Boston Gardens on the King Biscuit Flower Hour"
Boston Gardens
Boston, MA
11-Dec-1974
Remastered by Shaun Toole, June 2003
Recordings of Yes at Boston Gardens broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour (KBFH) have been released as a commercial bootleg and in various formats. This recording appears to have originated from a pre-FM copy intended for broadcast in 1975. I am basing that belief on the announcer's mention of "SQ Matrix Quadraphonic Sound." This is the cleanest copy of these recordings that I have ever found. Remastering was done with Sound Forge and other PC-based editing software. Tracks have been re-ordered from the original version to follow the set list of the original concert. "Ritual" has never been included in the KBFH recordings. It may be lying in a vault somewhere, waiting to see the light of day. Let's hope that day comes soon.

Greensboro, NC 11/24/74: (audience tape)
I have no memory of who this tape came from, other than it was probably through an ad I saw in Goldmine or Discoveries or the like. You would send off an SASE and get a list back in the mail, then choose the shows you wanted. I don't remember ever paying money for them, other than covering tape and postage costs - I assume it was fans who were trading mostly and also sharing with the likes of me, who had nothing to trade. I was looking for Gates but was bummed when I heard how chopped up the beginning was. I honestly listened to it once and never went back to it - I hate incomplete/cut songs. Over time, I forgot I even had this tape and it sat for a long time without being played. I guess I preseved it and stored it well.
Maxell XLII 90 >Nakamichi CR-1A cassette deck> Apogee Rosetta A/D 44.1/16 bit UV22 (soft limit off)>digital input to Roland VS 1680 in Mastering mode (no file compression)
I did no EQ, limiting, processing, editing, etc.
The tape was recorded very hot. The distortion at times could be from my tape being recorded too hot or maybe from the master. But it's on the tape and didn't happen during the transfer.
It almost sounds mono to me, which I find strange. Also very sibilant at times.
There should be about 4db of headroom to work with and I didn't put any track markers in.
Track list:
Firebird
Sound Chaser
Close (cut near end)
To Be Over
Gates (a real mess at the beginning, missing a verse - a patch would be nice!)
And You And I
Ritual (beginning only, fades out)
There is no mention of the location in Jon's between song talking. There must have been a crowd issue: after Sound Chaser, he spends some time asking the people in the middle to move back to make more room for the people in front.

This is the part of the stream of essential Traffic performances 1967-1974.
This is written about a GD concert thouht for years to be Anderson Theater, 11-23-1970 with Winwood as a guest.
This is the concert formerly thought to have taken place on 11/23/70 at the Anderson Theater in New York City. This show has been shrouded in mystery and confusion over the last 30 years ever since it first entered circulation in 1973. However, fresh research has unveiled what is most likely the true story behind this classic Grateful Dead show.
There are several pieces of evidence which now point directly to the
"11/23/70 Anderson Theater" show being correctly identified as Fillmore East 11/16/70. 1) Traffic has been confirmed, in a letter written by the Kleinhans Music Hall, as having played at the Kleinhans Music Hall, Buffalo, NY on 11/23/70. This firmly places them out of New York City on that date. Thanks to Greg Shaw for this help. 2) Bill Graham introduces the Dead. The identification of his voice is clear, as never before, on this new transfer. Bill Graham and the owner of the Anderson Theater were not friendly with each other and Bill Graham would never have introduced the Grateful Dead in the Anderson Theater. 3) A 1:55 snippet of Hot Tuna playing Hesitation Blues precedes the Dead's show on the first generation 10" reel. 4) After Bob Weir sings the Frozen Logger off-mic, several people on stage can be heard attempting to get Jack Casady to join in saying, "Hey Casady, why don't you play" and "Hey Jack, hey Jack, c'mon up". Hot Tuna played on 11/16/70 at the Fillmore and they are not known to have played at the Anderson Theater. 5) An eyewitness who attended the 11/16/70 Fillmore show clearly recalls Steve Winwood and Jorma Kaukonen sitting in with the Dead. 6) Music was commonly played over the P.A. between sets at the Fillmore to promote upcoming shows. Elton John played at the Fillmore East the following weekend, November 20th and 21st as the warm up for Leon Russell. This was his first New York City appearance. 7) On page 382 in his book Long Strange Trip, Dennis McNally mentions this show as being from the Fillmore East, 11/16/70.
According to Corry Arnold on 11/14/70 at the Fillmore East after Frank Zappa's performance Grace Slick came on stage and announced on behalf of Bill Graham that the Dead and the Airplane would be playing a surprise concert at the Fillmore East on Monday, November 16th. On the 16th the very pregnant Slick was unable to make the gig but Hot Tuna substituted for the Airplane. This is why this show does not appear in ads and playbills etc." http://www.filefactory.com/file/72igb2ig7ctd/Trffc_11-16-1970%20%28SBD%29.rar
