RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - Live at Austin City Limits Music Festival - 10/14/2012
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Live at Austin City Limits Music Festival (2012)
The ACL Music Festival started in 2002 and was inspired by KLRU’s, a local PBS television station, TV show called Austin City Limits. The television program showcases the live music of Austin and celebrates the city as the “Live Music Capital of the World”. The Austin City Limits Music Festival is an annual three-day event, with over 130 musical acts from around the world, joining 70,000 fans with electronic, indie, rock, country, and other genre’s of music. Local vendors, supply festival goers with delicious eats, drinks, and art to appreciate and purchase. Headlining Sunday, October 14th: Red Hot Chili Peppers. Serving as this year’s headlining and closing act, RHCP had been the topic of discussion throughout the entire festival. And now the moment many of us had been waiting for had finally arrived. Kicking off their two-hour performance with “Dani California,” the group could not be stopped. They still appear to have the energy of their ’90s heyday. Throughout their set, they jumped, danced and ran across the stage like younger men. The hits continued: “Otherside,” “Suck My Kiss,” “Tell Me Baby,” “Under the Bridge,” “By the Way” and “Give It Away.” Although longtime RHCP guitarist John Frusciante is no longer with the band, new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer did a superb job in a formidable role. Most of the time, Klinghoffer sat on a chair. But when the music began to hit him or animated bassist Flea started walking in his direction, the guitarist would immediately bounce right up and shred. Every time Klinghoffer stood up, the audience knew they were in for a treat. Two hours later, the musical adventure had come to an end. As with any music festival, some acts are going to deliver, others are not. ACL proved once again why it is considered one of the nation’s best music festivals. In Gellert’s case, traditional folk music was there from the beginning – it’s how she learned to understand music, how she learned to play, and the way she eventually figured out to make her way as a fiddler.
She has earned a solid place in contemporary roots music by moving straight from homespun jam sessions to a career lending her skills to folks like Loudon Wainwright III, Abigail Washburn, Robyn Hitchcock, and others. There were also a couple albums on Rounder Records with Uncle Earl (the all-female old time troupe who earned a lot of praise breathing new life into old songs). Indeed, Gellert’s fiddle skills precede her, so it’s interesting to hear her lay down the bow and deliver this collection of mostly guitar-and-banjo-accompanied tunes. There are a couple exceptional moments when bow hits strings. “The Fatal Flower Garden” has a fiddle sawing deeply in the background so it almost sounds like car breaks screeching. But, even there, it’s a tertiary instrument to the lyrics and melodies she’s selected, knowing all the while that where we go is best understood by embracing where we’ve been.

STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN - The Fire Meets The Fury
Stevie Ray Vaughan s battle with drink and drug addiction during the mid-eighties was well documented, thus his triumphant return with fourth studio album In Step in June 1989 was met with much relief and huge enthusiasm by fans and critics alike. His return was of course to be cut tragically short however, when the horrific helicopter crash that ended his life took place little more than a year later. With comparisons to fret-board geniuses such as Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton regularly made, the body of work Stevie Ray left behind confirms his status as one of the most skilled and creative guitarists of all time . Taken from the final two nights of The Fire Meets The Fury Tour , during which Vaughan was paired with British guitar legend Jeff Beck for a 28 date run, and as part of his wider In Step Tour arranged to promote what was to be the maestro s final solo studio record, both sets offer a widely diverse song selection that span the entirety of Vaughan s recording career. With Stevie sadly passing on just eight months after these two gigs, they remain amongst the last recorded performances given by this guitar virtuoso, and accordingly, provide an historic document as well as a hugely enjoyable listening experience for the man s millions of fans still flying the flag for the finest rock guitarist to emerge in the final quarter of the twentieth century. - amazon.com
