Jerry Garcia - Guitar and Vocals
Bob Wier - Guitar and Vocals
Vince Welnick - Keyboards and Vocals
Phil Lesh - Bass and Vocals
This was probably the first official "Phil and Friends" concert. The fact that it was Jerry, Bob, Vince and Phil "unplugged" at Berkeley Community Theater made it a special event. The show sold out in 15 minutes. From the Live Music Archive at http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=21611
I posted it here because it is one of the most incredible shows from the 90s and I don't think it has circulated well. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do. Support Phil and go see him live sometime! - Dub Irie

“It’s exciting to have so many phenomenal artists performing in this special musical tribute to my dad, Jerry Garcia!” said Trixie Garcia in a statement. “DEAR JERRY: CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF JERRY GARCIA speaks volumes to Jerry’s lasting influence in the ears and hearts of his fans and fellow musicians. Join us in celebrating the legacy that inspired so many.”
“Jerry gave his heart, soul, and music to his band mates, fellow musicians, and to millions of fans around the world,” said Wortman. “Whether playing in the Grateful Dead, his acoustic and bluegrass bands or his beloved Jerry Garcia Band, his songs made us happy just to be alive. As all of us in the extended Grateful Dead family embark on celebrating 50 years of their music, I can’t think of a more fitting way to kick-off the festivities than by honoring Jerry and his songs at this extraordinary event. I am privileged and humbled to be working with theses artists to deliver such a special event to the fans — it will be unforgettable.”

From Dan Cole's collection of JGB cassettes - he had it listed as
Master Soundboard and was using a Sony D5 recorder at the
time. I recorded directly from his master tape to my computer using
Cool Edit, divided the tracks using CD Wave and then converted
to SHN before recording my copy onto cd.
Dan had this to say about recording this show
"Garcia and Kahn, The Ritz 1/27-28/86,
An old buddy of mine from college was living in New York City
and was employed as the light man at the Palladium.
He knew the soundman at the Ritz and had my tape deck hooked into
the soundboard before I could even score a ticket. They also had a
killer video feed going on, but they wouldn't allow me to patch in
with the portable VCR I had brought with me."

DAVID GRISMAN & JERRY GARCIA - Garcia Grisman Alternate
David Grisman & Jerry Garcia – Garcia Grisman Alternate (2012)
In celebration of the late Jerry Garcia‘s 70th birthday, David Grisman unveils a new collection of nine previously unreleased alternate takes from 1991’s album Jerry Garcia / David Grisman in high-definition (24 bit, 96 khz) format.
Garcia Grisman Alternate affords listeners an opportunity to enjoy “Grateful Dawg” music in a sonically superior format with different versions of “The Thrill Is Gone,” “Friend of the Devil,” “Russian Lullaby,” “Arabia” and five others, providing insight into how these two legendary American musicians approached this material.
According to producer Grisman, “Our sessions were always informal, and all of these takes are except- ional performances. They are just as vibrant as the original selected masters and perhaps even better!”

JERRY GARCIA - GarciaLive, Volume Five: December 31st, 1975 Keystone Berkeley (2014)
Jerry Garcia Band – GarciaLive, Volume Five
Jerry Garcia Band – GarciaLive, Volume Five: December 31st, 1975 Keystone Berkeley (2014)
The fifth installment of the GarciaLive series collects archival footage of the only New Year’s Eve show any incarnation of the Jerry Garcia Band performed, recorded at the tiny Berkeley, California club the Keystone on the last day of 1975.
Garcia’s band of drummer Greg Errico, bassist John Kahn, and keyboardist Nicky Hopkins is joined on the second and third sets by familiar Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart as well as harmonica player Matthew Kelly on several tracks.
A particularly loose, appropriately celebratory feeling flows through much of the sets as the band wanders through seemingly completely unrehearsed instrumental interludes, briefly visiting themes like “God Save the Queen” (the traditional melody, not the Sex Pistols version still a few years from coming into existence) and a bumbling jam on the Beatles’ “Mother Nature’s Son.” When they do get cooking, it’s on extended 12-bar blues vamps in the first set like “It Ain’t No Use” and “Pig’s Boogie,” while the second set tends toward laid-back jams like “Catfish John” or shuffling electric blues workouts like “Tore Up Over You.”
The band takes some time to truly get in a groove on this date, finally settling into some of the best material near the end of the recording. The ambling shakiness of the first set puts this into the category of simply average-caliber fare from Garcia and friends. Die-hard completist Deadheads and those who prefer the bluesier side of Garcia’s multifaceted playing might take interest, but the casual listener might find this set falling short of inspired, even for the fun-loving vibe that develops as it goes on.
Disc 1
First set:
“Let It Rock” (Chuck Berry)
“Mother Nature’s Son” (John Lennon, Paul McCartney)
“It Ain’t No Use” (traditional)

Entire show with Clarence Clemons.
Final performance of "Hope It Won't Be This Way, Always".
Overall this is a surprisingly clean SBD/low analog generation without any major tape/mechanical glitches beyond the flips and very little hiss. The tape speed was slow requiring a pitch transposition of 1.0386.
