OHMPHREY - OHMphrey [2009]

OHMphrey - OHMphrey [2009]

OHMphrey, is an American collaborative project formed in January 2008 featuring three members of the Chicago-based jam-band Umphrey's McGee (keyboardist Joel Cummins, guitarist Jake Cinninger and drummer Kris Myers) and OHM guitarist Chris Poland, a legendary player who’s perhaps best known for work with headbanging pioneers Megadeth, and bassist Robertino Pagliari (a.k.a. “Pag”).

The bands met and played together for the first time at Martyrs’ Restaurant and Pub in Umphrey’s McGee’s hometown of Chicago. After their Chicago meeting the idea for a collaborative project between the two bands was formed. Soon the opportunity arose to record in a band setting and the five that would become OHMphrey want to Poland’s downtown L.A. studio to rekindle the experience they created months earlier at the Chicago gig. The band recorded over the course of two days resulting in a unique and improv-heavy album.

The band released their self-titled debut "OHMphrey" on May 19, 2009 .

DEEP PURPLE with Orchestra – Live At Montreux 2011

Deep Purple with Orchestra – Live At Montreux 2011 [2CD] (2011)

Take Deep Purple in all of their splendid rock glory, add in one 38-piece orchestra, and you have the crux of Deep Purple with Orchestra – Live at Montreux 2011, though the new recording isn’t anything new on either front. The band has in fact performed a number of Montreux festivals during their day, even recording a few, and the band has performed in front on an orchestra as well (DP played a series of shows in the 1960’s with a symphony and in 1999 they played a series of shows at Royal Albert Hall). Still, on Deep Purple with Orchestra – Live at Montreux 2011 the band employed the help of the Neue Philharmonie from Frankfurt.Leaning mostly on material from the early end of their catalog with early Deep Purple timeless favorites like “Hush,” “Smoke on the Water,” and…
“Perfect Strangers,” Deep Purple with Orchestra – Live at Montreux 2011 delivers time and time again, even though not every facet of the bands game in top notch here. Right out of the gates with the classic “Highway Star,” it’s clear that time has taken its toll on the vocal chords of frontman Ian Gillian as he struggles to hit the high notes, though he picks up the pace throughout the night a bit. The addition of the symphonic element helps Gillian’s cause, but it also consumes him at times as he gets lost in the shuffle, which can be both a good thing and a bad thing. And speaking of the symphonic element to Deep Purple with Orchestra – Live at Montreux 2011, Frankfurt’s Neue Philharmonie do a quality job adding another layer of sound to the bands classic material, most notably on songs like “Black Night,” “Woman From Tokyo,” and “Knocking On Your Back Door.”

WILLIE NELSON - The Complete Atlantic Sessions [3 CD, 2006]

Willie Nelson - The Complete Atlantic Sessions [3 CD, 2006]

Just before becoming a paragon of "outlaw country" with the release of 1975's iconic RED-HEADED STRANGER on Columbia Records, Willie Nelson spent a brief and largely overlooked time at Atlantic, releasing only two albums. However, longtime fans now consider 1973's rock-&-roll-influenced SHOTGUN WILLIE and 1974's autobiographical concept album, PHASES AND STAGES, to be two of the Texas singer-songwriter's finest albums. THE COMPLETE ATLANTIC SESSIONS is an outstanding overview of Nelson's time with Atlantic, presenting both albums in full along with a complete 1974 show recorded at Austin's Texas Opry House for a planned live album that was scrapped when Nelson changed labels. Along with remastered sound and extensive liner notes, this three-disc set adds a total of 27 outtakes, demos, and alternate versions.
