Pavlov’s Dog – The Pekin Tapes (2014)
The Pekin Tapes were recorded 10/1973, 2 years before Pavlov’s Dog’s official debut ‘Pampered Menial’, and intended to become their debut album. They show the variety of the early Pavlov’s Dog, with no producer involved. ABC Records signed them on the strength of the Pekin Tapes for the highest amount ever payed to a newcomer act, but sent them back to studio: ’75 ‘Pampered Menial’ became a milestone in Progressive Rock. The studio in Pekin/IL burned down, the Pekin Tapes were lost, until 2014 a copy was discovered. The 4 bonus tracks (3/1973) are the earliest Pavlov’s Dog tracks ever discovered.

PAVLOV'S DOG / LIVE AND UNLEASHED (2011)
"Live and Unleashed" is the first Pavlov's Dog livealbum in it's 36 year history. The band is touring again regulary since 2004, and receives terrific reviews for energetic, emotional, and congenial concerts. "Live and Unleashed"captures the unique spirit of a Pavlov's Dog show authentically. The 7 piece live-lineup, incl. violin, melotron, piano, guitar and David Surkamp's unique voice, generates the typical Pavlov's Dog sound. Some arrangements are quite different to the studio versions, and overall the band is live more heavy. Powerful rock songs such as Breaking Ice or Looking For My Shadow, take turns with ballads such as Standing Here With You or Angel's Twilight Jump. Branded by beautiful violin melodies and Surkamp's affecting vocals, Pavlov's Dog live gives the heebie-jeebies for granted. Live and unleashed comprehends a cross-section of all Pavlov's Dog and David Surkamp periods. The album contains not only tracks of any Pavlov's Dog album, but as well Heart Of Mine (a track originally by HIFI, Surkamp's band in the 80ies together with Ian Matthews), and with Wrong and Looking For My Shadow two tracks of Surkamp's 2006 soloalbum Dancing On The Edge Of A Teacup. And despite Live and unleashed was recorded in 2009, it comprehends already four tracks of the brand new studioalbum Echo & Boo, which was released in 2010. - germusica.com
