Soundboard recording

The Park West show is probably the definitive representative of Guitar Town era Steve Earle. It was professionally recorded, with a couple of tracks having since appeared on official releases - State Trooper and Good Ol' Boy (Gettin' Tough) as bonus tracks on different releases of Guitar Town itself, with the former also appearing as a B-side to the Back To The Wall single.

This is the entire show (a partial version of which also circulates as a single disc - with additional filler from the Atlanta Copperhead Road show - under the the title of Living Dangerously.) The two releases are probably sourced from the same recording - Living Dangerously might have marginally better sound (or it could just be a result of the volume level being slightly higher on that one).

In its complete form the Park West show boasts not only every track from Guitar Town but also no fewer than seven which were to appear on Exit 0 the following year (only I Ain't Ever Satisfied, The Rain Came Down and It's All Up To You are absent) and an early rendition of The Devil's Right Hand (which had just been committed to record by Waylon Jennings).

YES - DETROIT SPECIAL - Cobo Hall, Detroit-August 23, 1977 (complete show) & August 17, 1976 (remaining tracks not officially released)

                                                                                                                                             YES: DETROIT SPECIAL-Cobo Hall, Detroit-August 23, 1977 (complete show) & August 17, 1976 (remaining tracks not officially released)-All from 1st Gen Tapes
1st Gen Tapes>dat>cd-r>Bias Peak Pro 5.21>XACT>flac
Here is a wonderful snapshot of YES in their prime, featuring the band in 1977 and 1976, all from first-generation tapes. These are both very fine shows, EX- sound quality for the 1977 and EX sound quality for the 1976. The same taper did both shows and used great equipment, as the results show. One song sample provided for each show (Going for the One-1977 & Heart of the Sunrise-1976). Detroit concerts from the 1970s (and the city's great audiences) are always special, so here's a Detroit Special for all Yes fans to enjoy.
Cobo Hall, Detroit-August 23, 1977-1st Gen Tape. None of this has ever been officially released.

8.Awaken
9.Starship Trooper
10.Roundabout

AND, AS AN EXTRA BONUS:
Cobo Hall, Detroit-August 17, 1976-1st Gen Tape.
These are the remaining Detroit tracks that were NOT INCLUDED on the official releases "Yes Shows" and "The Word is Live." Here are the rest of the songs from this superb 1976 concert. The band obviously thought this was a hot show, because they have released half of it during the past 30 years. The remaining tracks included here have never been officially released. The lineup is the same, except Patrick Moraz is on keyboards, not Rick Wakeman. Excellent, sharp recording!

Disc Three: (48:36)
11.I've Seen All Good People
12.Long Distance Runaround/Moraz Solo
13.The Clap
14.Harp Solo

THE GRATEFUL DEAD – The Best of the Grateful Dead

Grateful Dead – The Best of the Grateful Dead (2015)

Best Of The Grateful DeadThe Best of the Grateful Dead‘s 32 tracks feature music from every Grateful Dead studio album and cover the key waypoints on the band’s mystical musical journey. Arranged chronologically, the tracks reflect the evolution of the group’s sound – and its membership – across more than 2 decades – from 1967’s “The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion)” to 1989’s “Standing on the Moon.” In between, listeners will find the essential tracks that made the band such a cultural phenomenon, including such fan favorites as “St. Stephen,” “Casey Jones,” “Sugar Magnolia,” “Friend of the Devil,” “Scarlet Begonias,” and “Hell In a Bucket.”
The Best of the Grateful Dead also highlights the original versions of songs that would later become staples of the band’s transcendent concerts, such as “Truckin’,” “China Cat Sunflower,” “Uncle John’s Band,” and “Fire On the Mountain.” Perhaps the best example is “Dark Star.” The rare single version included here is only two-and-a-half minutes long. On stage, the Dead transformed the song into an improvisational showcase that often stretched out for 30 minutes. The longest song found on the collection is the 16-minute “Terrapin Station.” Released in 1977, this suite of songs (an entire album side) is widely considered to be the Dead’s magnum opus. Of course the set wouldn’t be complete without “Touch of Grey,” the band’s only hit single, which cracked the Top Ten in 1987.

The usual Guitar Town setlist, including the whole of the album plus Sweet Little '66.

From somebody who was at the gig:
"You have Queen's Hall down as a possible FM broadcast. I don't think it was. I think it is such a good recording because:
       1. It is a former small church so the acoustics are fantastic.
       2. The club was pretty empty that night so not a great deal of audience noise.
       3. There is an upper balcony that would have been all but empty. If the taper was up there they wouldn't have picked up a great deal of noise."

TheTooleMan's 2009 Upgrade Edition

Source: very low generation audience recording -> TheTooleMan's Tools -> FLAC

Recently, I listened to my 2003-2004 remaster of this show and decided to scrap it. It did not do justice to the recording. So I went back to the best version of the tape and started over. This time, the results are much better.

Guess I've learned something in the past 5 years!

The 2009 Edition is much more natural-sounding than the previous version. It also addresses a problem in the transfer of the best tape, which was carried over to the 2003-2004 remaster. Digital errors in the transfer can be found near the end of "The Gates of Delirium" and extend into "Long Distance Runaround." For the new edition, I replaced that part of the recording with the same material taken from the second-best copy I have, which is nearly identical in quality. You should not be able to detect the transition between the two copies of the recording.

The master recording picked up noise from handling the microphone a couple of times. There are also a few annoying spots of clapping, whistling, and arguing. The tape had a couple of gaps, and part of the introduction of "Soon" is missing, as well as the first verse. "Heart of the Sunrise" was placed before "Gates" in the CD copy of the tape; this was probably done to fit the music onto a two-hour cassette, which was used for the CD copy. I smoothed out the cuts, closed the gaps, and filtered the rest of the distractions to reduce their impact. I would say that more than 95% of the recording is excellent, and not much was required on my part to bring out the best of it.

Art is included with this torrent. It does not reflect the three tracks of Jon introducing songs. Since the spoken introductions run between about 50 seconds to nearly two minutes, I decided they should be separated from the music. I don't remember who created the art, but it's good and I thank them again for it. Also, thanks to gr8bigboy for the best copy of the tape, and to whoever else gave me the others copies, too.

This recording captures Yes nearing the end of their 1976 tour. The band was still in high spirits and projecting strong energy. Their performance is well-honed but not rote. Overall this is a gem of a recording and worth a new listening session.
