FLEETWOOD MAC - Alladin Center For The Performing Arts, Las Vegas - 1977-08-25

Fleetwood Mac - Mega-rare restored vinyl "Sin City 77" Alladin Center For The Performing Arts, Las Vegas 1977-08-25 Top ten FM show in excellent quality!

The old guy returns for a while...

This is in my opinion one of the finest Fleetwood Mac shows ever put on tape. Not only are you getting the group in its prime while riding high on the "Rumours" tour, you are getting a heartfelt, genuine performance as well. The entire group is at peak, with Stevie Nicks as a standout. She has never sounded better. She catapoults both "Dreams" and particularly "Rhiannon" into the stars. The girl is on fire, and it shows.

Althoug labeled as "Mega-rare", this double boot LP along with the Jethro Tull title "A Sack Full Of Trousersnakes" sold out very quickly and was repressed several times. This torrent is taken from a nearly mint first edition on Dragonfly Records. But even if you have this album, your humble seeder believes you have never heard it properly. All copies of this show ran just fast enough to make the performance sound a little sick. I've corrected the speed to make the the album pitch properly. Even though this was just by a small amount, it makes a huge difference in the sound quality.

This album is labled "entire concert". Well, maybe it is and maybe it isn't. I have heard that "Monday Morning" may in fact have been played and isn't on this two-record set.

I'll be dropping in soon with more goodies already in the oven.

KINGFISH - Sacramento*, California The Gold Rush - 02/19/1975

Kingfish
1975-02-19  Sacramento*, California  The Gold Rush  (M?-SBD *remaster*)

13. Shake & Finger Pop
14. Lonesome Fugitive

16. It's All Over Now
17. Hand Jive//
18. CC Rider

Total Time ::: 1:14:09

::: EXC quality remastered stereo SBD. Check samples for acquisitional inquisition or scrumptious sonic snippets.
::: Warts: NOT MANY! Offset/phase wandered & was corrected thruout, especially at the 45 minute tapeflip. Fixed dropouts & dullspots but surely missed a few. #10 goes a bit dull from ~37-42 mins. #12 has a little warble in last 15 seconds. #17 fades early.
::: Original notes say 8,14,15,17 are played for the 1st time, but I think they mean 1st appearances on circulating tapes.
::: This is shn85482 transformed into a much more spectacular aural experience.
::: Many thanks to L.Legger biodtl (presumably the DIMER of the same moniker) for providing me with his flacs.
::: *Previously this has been incorrectly listed as having taken place in "River City" which is a nickname for Sacramento.

Recording Information ::: stereo SBD -> unknown stereo recording equipment -> master stereo tape (most likely a reel) -> ? (1 or 2 gens?) -> CD-R -> EAC > wavs (in 2007) > flacs.

Playback 2014-07-xx ::: flacs -> Trader's Little Helper -> wavs -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment throughout, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, further speed fixes start-48:35 +1.8% & 48:36-end +1.3% single pass per segment after spectral analysis & with pitchpipe verification, NO equalisation used except a tiny bit in #10 from ~37-42 mins (see below)] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2014-07-19.

Further remastering notes: Glitch in #3 fixed but may be missing a beat. #10 goes a bit dull from ~37-42 mins & a tiny bit of EQ was applied but 'tis still audible (NO other EQ used). #12 had some tape chew in the last 45 seconds but fixed most of it with (many!) cross channel patches & now there's just a little warble in the last 15 seconds.

Line-up ::: Matthew Kelly - electric guitar, harmonica, vocals // Robbie Hoddinott - electric guitar // Bob Weir - electric guitar, vocals // Dave Torbert - electric bass, vocals // Chris Herold - drums.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 037 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! ::: Corrections welcome ::: This one is a very cool early Kingfish show, as it includes numerous relatively scarce songs, wherein the energy levels are extremely high. Now I didn't catch Kingfish 'til '77, but my old friend P.Haber (aka "Redbeard"), a born & raised Californian, told me in Katmandu in the late 70s that seeing Kingfish in the beginning was an incredibly joyful event. At his first show he said people were LITERALLY dancing on the tables in the bar & 'twern't no stripclub. When was the last time you saw an audience that excited at a gig? This recording really moved up in my estimation when I got the speed back to normal. After a lifetime of listening to the Dead, one gets pretty sensitive to Bobby's voice & after the adjustment, all of the sudden it really sounded like Bob, not to mention the fact that the somewhat lackluster feel to the whole show disappeared & it became a MUCH more solid listen. Didn't hurt to have some bad electric pops & many glitches completely gone as well. Sounds like someone deleted a lot of tuning, etc. between most songs so the transitions were all smoothed out.

Two versions have been around - shn85482 from Tinydancer/biodtl (from which this remaster was done) & the significantly lesser quality shn111663 from Joebeacon. shn111663 is listed as "FM Broadcast maybe SBD" but I would guess it is a SBD. After finally getting both versions, it was clear shn85482 was FAR superior in quality, but it needed some help - which herein it did so get.

ALSO: #17 is likely the encore (or part of it). #18 seems to be the same mix/location but it could be a re-ordered show as suggested by Joebeacon or, very possibly what we have here is an early show (which would explain all the unusual "first time" songs) & that #18 is the first song of the late show as at the end of it Bobby says, "Good evening" (in a "hello" tone...). Whatever the case may be, you can have at it without fear. I would suggest Kingfish still remains greatly underappreciated. Their first album packs a royal punch & remains one of greats of the mid-70s in my opinion. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
