GOLDEN EARRING - The Continuing Story of Radar Love

"The Continuing Story of Radar Love" is a 12-song hits collection from Dutch rock band Golden Earring, containing both the chug-a-long rock staple "Radar Love" and the full eight-minute version of "Twilight Zone." These two songs are the most renowned on this compilation and both cracked the Top 20, with "Radar Love" hitting number 13 in 1974 and "Twilight Zone" peaking at number ten nine years later. The other ten songs on the album consist of long, heavy guitar-filled runs that surround obscure lyrics, sometimes sounding like modern psychedelia. Some of the songs, like "The Vanilla Queen" and "Mad Love's Comin'" harbor a distinguishable progressive edge, thanks to woven keyboard and guitar interplay. A mild blues and rock feel creep into such tunes as "Candy's Going Bad" and "Lost and Found" but fail to ignite any type of serious musical flare compared to their two singles. Much of Golden Earring's music consists of average rock riffs that are either sped up or slowed down by accompanying synthesizer, helped along by the mysteriousness of Barry Hay's voice. Even though this compilation is a dozen songs deep, it still holds as a worthy best-of.

GOLDEN EARRING - Scheveningen, Netherlands 1986

Golden Earring: Scheveningen, Netherlands 1986
Golden Earring is a Dutch band that was founded in 1961, their biggest hit was Radar Love recorded in the seventies but they have a lot more great music than just that.
You can read more about their history on wikipedia. Their fantastic live performance is recorded here from a Radio broadcast in Holland. Although some minor cuts in 2 or 3 songs this is a great presentation.

PINK FLOYD - THE WALL [Experience Edition - 3CD]

Pink Floyd – The Wall [Experience Edition - 3CD] (2012)

EMI’s Experience Edition of The Wall offers a new remaster of the original album and adds a third disc of a “Work in Progress,” a selection of 27 demos also featured on the much larger Immersion Edition reissue of the album. Apart from an opening “Prelude (Vera Lynn),” all the solo Roger Waters demos have been left behind — they’re as an effective enticement for investing in the Immersion Edition as all the extra visual and printed material — leaving this as a bunch of relatively rough full-band run-throughs, divided into three separate Programmes tracing the evolution of the album. The first Programme, running 13 tracks, is quite subdued and slow, a clear outgrowth from the moody malevolence of Animals. “Another Brick in the Wall” has its…
melody but not its riff, a signal of how this earliest draft downplayed muscle and melodrama, elements that creep into the picture during Programme 2 with the addition of “In the Flesh?” and David Gilmour’s pulsating eighth notes on “Another Brick in the Wall.” All these elements begin to coalesce on Programme 3, as the production gets further definition via spoken word, effects, and fuller arrangements, along with the addition of “Comfortably Numb,” here presented under its early version, “The Doctor.” Along the way, abandoned songs are aired and it’s evident that their themes were folded into other songs — “Teacher, Teacher” went into “Another Brick in the Wall, Pt 2,” “Sexual Revolution” covered the same ground as “Young Lust,” “Backs to the Wall” went into “In the Flesh” — and there are other slight differences to be heard, usually in the form of lyrics. Nothing here quite seems like a radical departure from the finished album — nothing is embryonic, where only the barest outline can be detected; Waters had a sturdy structure for the songs at the very beginning — but hearing this evolution in microcosm is fascinating: few albums are ever as lavishly and carefully produced as The Wall, and by going through this “Work in Progress,” it becomes clear just how much labor Floyd and producer Bob Ezrin exerted on the finished album.

An ash cloud from a volcano in Iceland forced widespread flight cancellations across Europe (the ash is bad for jet engines). Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, which played April 15 at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, was grounded.

Enter the All Star Funk Jam, a swampy extravaganza featuring members of Dumpstaphunk and The Funky Meters -- acts that were to bracket the set by Sharon -- and special guests: Cody and Luther Dickinson, Oteil and Kofi Burbridge, JoJo Herman, Bobby Lee Rodgers, Matt Grondin.

The 53-minute jam under the leafy canopy of the Mushroom Stage represents the improvisational, collaborative effort that is the Wanee Music Festival. WAR - THE VERY BEST OF WAR

Funk band War were formed in 1969 when the disillusioned singer of rock band The Animals, Eric Burdon, met a band called Nightshift in Los Angeles and suggested a united project. The debut album Eric Burdon Declares "War" contained "Spill The Wine", an international hit that made their name. But Burdon left the band shortly after second album The Black Man's Burdon (1970), due to exhaustion from touring. The rest of the band carried on without him. A self-titled album didn't succeed, but All Day Music (1971) did - it included two minor hits and sold over a million copies. The World Is A Ghetto (1972) did even better, topping the album chart and selling three million copies. Deliver The World (1973) sold another two million, but wasn't so well received by critics. War got back into the critics' good books with Why Can't We Be Friends? (1975), which included another hit in the title track, and "Low Rider". The group's popularity began to decline afterwards as their output slowed and the disco craze sidelined gritty funk. In the 80s and 90s, hip-hop artists such as Beastie Boys, De La Soul and Gangstarr sampled many of their songs, introducing War to a new generation of fans. A version of War continues to tour today.

34 signature tracks totaling over 2 1/2 hours of music, includes classics from Eric Burdon & War plus all-time War hits 'Low Rider', 'The Cisco Kid', 'The World Is A Ghetto', 'Summer' and more. Slipcase. Rhino. 2003.

T.Rex - Classics [5 CD Boxset]

This collection brings together the last five albums that Marc Bolan released before his untimely death in a car accident in September 1977. Bolan's creative powers were in a state of slow but steady decline when these recordings first saw the light of day during the middle and late seventies, but he remained a charismatic and distinctive performer nonetheless, and "Tanx" and "Zinc Alloy.." in particular still repay closer listening almost forty years after they were first released.
