Simply the most important keyboard player of the ‘70s, a true progressive rock legend with Emerson, Lake & Palmer, one of the biggest names of this music genre, still loved by millions all over the world. Keith Emerson has been one of the most important figures to emerge from the thriving UK rock scene of the 1960‘s and 70‘s. He is known as one of the most prominent musicians fusing rock ‘n‘ roll with a myriad of musical styles, such as classical, jazz and world music. A modern wizard of electronic and acoustic keyboards, most notably the organ and synthesizer, he has set a standard by which others multiply. A true, rock and roll icon with both The Nice and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Emerson has written and recorded some of rock‘s most adventurous music and brought it to the asses with unmatched virtuosity and skilful showmanship. Albums like “Tarkus” and “Pictures At An Exhibition” are among the classic albums f the seventies every rock fan should have.
The Keith Emerson Band was the next step in the progression of heralded keyboardist Keith Emerson. Fusing talents of Emerson and guitar wizard/vocalist, Marc Bonilla (Glenn Hughes, ELP, Toy Matinee), yielded the 2008 release (Edel) of the highly acclaimed debut album, “Keith Emerson Band featuring Marc Bonilla”. This has been the first offering of all original material in well over a decade.
The great return of Keith Emerson to progressive rock and to the sound of the ‘70s was debuted in the summer of 2010 in Moscow, Russia, at the Moscow Theatre - an explosive combination of the classic ELP sound and modern progressive hard rock which was captured by a Russian film crew and is presented for the first time in 5.1 Surround Sound. Several Emerson, Lake & Palmer classics, like “Karn Evil 9” and ”Pictures At An Exhibition”, have been cleverly re-arranged with new guitar versions, adding entirely new elements to the already epic sound. Emerson’s keyboard is flamboyant and explosive more than ever. When interviewed recently, Keith confessed, that these new re-constructions with guitar reflected more accurately the way he had originally envisioned them.
Besides Emerson and Bonilla, the band members include drummer Tony Pia (Edgar Winter, Brian Setzer, Doobie Brothers) and multi-faceted newcomer Travis Davis on bass and backing vocals. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is now available on DVD and a 2CD set, featuring the well-known “Nutcracker Suite” from Tchaikovsky as the “Nutrocker Suite”, as well as “The Barbarian” from Bartok transformed into a rock sensation.
