Relayerman Notes about the show:
1) The weak keyboards after Firebird are because Steve's amp wasn't working (he couldn't start Siberian Khatru as usual) so Rick decided to do some keyboard work. Normally Steve would have come right in after Firebird finished. Rick's keys just weren't up in the mix.
2) The sound men got the stage sound right around the last half of Siberian Khatru as you might notice a slight change in  volume. That wasn't me, that was the sound guys.
3) Chris' bass had problems in Heart Of The Sunrise so you'll notice it's absent during some parts. Rick took up the slack some with keyboards.
4) Laughing at beginning of The Fish is due to Chris 'straightening his cuffs', kind of like saying 'ok, now I'm ready'.
5) Near the end of Roundabout there is a whistle. A young guy jumped up on stage and took off his shirt and started dancing. This swiftly came to a halt as some burly stage hands ran after him in front of the band. It was funny. Enjoy!      http://fp.io/f1ac69c8/

The Union tour was a difficult time for the band YES. 1970's YES members Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe had just finished a successful tour as ABWH despite a threatened law suit from 1980's YES members, Rabin, Kaye, White and Squire. With the second ABWH album stalling and the record executives grappling with the idea of two bands out on tour playing YES music, the suggestion was made, or forced upon the musicians depending on whom you talk to, that all eight players should come together as the band YES. As Steve Howe has said, "(Union) was more in control of the producers than the players and that required a lot of compromise from everybody".

For the new album, appropriately called Union, material from the ABWH camp was merged with songs written by Trevor Rabin and then topped off by material written by members of the group once they were together. According to Chris Squire the production of this album was hardly a real union of the two musical camps involved, "I think it's important to note that on the album there was no point where the eight of us were playing together on any one song. It was really like Jon was going back and forth between the ABWH band and us like a loose cannon." Despite all the talent that was brought together for this endeavor, no one seemed very pleased with the end result. Rick Wakeman famously has said, "I call it the Onion album because every time I hear it, it brings tears to my eyes". Trevor Rabin referred to it as a "black mark" on the band's history.

On tour, an interesting setlist was devised. In an attempt to satisfy everyone's concept of what was YES music. There were six songs from the early 1970's Bruford-era of YES. These included: Yours Is No Disgrace, Heart of the Sunrise, Clap, And You And I, I've Seen All Good People and Roundabout. For the 1980's YES camp represented by Rabin and Kaye the following 80's material was chosen: Rhythm of Love, Make It Easy, Owner Of A Lonely Heart, Changes, Solly's Beard and Whitefish; six in all. Three Union album songs were added: Shock the System, Saving My Heart and Lift Me Up and the show was rounded out by the inclusion of a perennial favorite, Awaken.

The setlist did not change much during the tour. After many gigs the band worked out all the kinks with individual songs performed well; even the drum duet of Bruford and White was polished. Interestingly, during one show in Lake Placid the band decided to cut out the solos and play Close To The Edge. Accounts from those who were there were mixed. Anderson, Howe, Bruford, Squire and Wakeman were the only members on stage for that song and it was performed imprecisely, in the opinion of some. By the time the band arrived in New York City for the next show, the decision was made to return to the standard setlist and Close To The Edge was dropped.

Despite the uncomfortable beginning of the Union project and the lack of union during the album's creation, it appears that some actually enjoyed the tour. Rick Wakeman said, "The Union tour was a wonderful tour....it was undoubtedly the most enjoyable YES tour I ever did". The performance was presented on a circular stage, with the two musical camps forced together. Jon Anderson noted, "I felt like a bee buzzing around and pollinating everyone".

During this tour, Bruford was still using the unusual drum kit introduced during the ABWH tour. Squire was described by one fan as looking, “tremendously over weight and ridiculous in that Tormato tour jacket”. Despite the uncomfortable, forced union of these musicians at the start of the tour, another fan said, “It is known that some current and former members are really not very friendly with each other but on this night you would think they all loved each other as brothers”.

The tour began with 33 shows in North America, starting in Florida and ending in Seattle, Washington. With only one week of rest, they resumed in Europe with another 22 performances; finishing with three shows at the Wembley arena. As if that wasn't enough, it was back to the United States, again after only one week off. The tour finished in August and was followed by a long break. Five shows were played in Japan in March of the following year but that would be the end of the Union rendition of YES. After that brief tour the band split apart. Steve Howe, Bill Bruford and Rick Wakeman were no longer part of the band and the rest went on to the next project, Talk.

UPP - THE COMPLETE UPP

Upp was a British rock-jazz fusion band, active in the 1970s. The group was originally going to be called 3 UPP, and consisted of Stephen Amazing (bass guitar), Andy Clark (keyboards) and Jim Copley (drums). David Bunce (guitar) joined on guitar for the second album.

Stephen Amazing, aka Steve Fields prior to his career in Clark Hutchinson in his teenage years, used to play bass guitar in a band called 'The Kinetics', and also, at times, in another band called 'The Abstracts'. Some photographs showing Fields in the Kinetics can be seen at Bill Chewter's Facebook page at. Jim Copley has spoken of the genesis of the band; "Three months of rehearsing almost everyday, Jeff Beck came down to the studio to play with David Bowie who was doing his Hammersmith Odeon farewell concert in 1973. Jeff was with a friend of my dad’s and he heard the band through the wall and we were doing James Brown and very funky stuff. He kicked the door open and he came in and we stopped 'cause it was Jeff Beck and he said 'please carry on, I love it, I love it!’. The band was heavily influenced by other acts like Otis Redding, Sly & The Family Stone, Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway.

The group were signed to CBS in 1974 and the debut album, Upp, was released in 1975. Jeff Beck produced and also played guitars on this LP, although there was no mention of him playing in the liner notes. Upp released its next album a year later, titled This way Upp. Beck again produced this album and played guitar solos on "Dance Your Troubles Away" and "Don't Want Nothing to Change." This album was recorded at CBS Studios, London. The group backed Beck on the 1970s BBC One special Four Faces of Guitar, which also featured Julian Bream. They played two songs, which were "Get Down in the Dirt" and Beck's arrangement of The Beatles' song "She's a Woman", with an interview about Beck's instrumentation as an intermission between the two.

Up is one of those "should've been" bands. Similar in sound to Blue Cheer and political philosophy to MC5, Killer Up represents the complete recordings of the Detroit band from the '60s. Save for two singles, none of this material was released by the band while it was still together between 1967-1973.
Up was closely aligned with MC5, living with them in the White Panther Party commune in Ann Arbor and often sharing the bill with them at area concerts. But while the Five and fellow Michiganders the Stooges got record deals and fame, Up remained a regional act.
The disc features both of Up's singles, plus several songs from a recording session at Head Sound Studios in Ypsilanti, MI, and some live cuts recorded at the Agora Ballroom in Columbus, OH, in 1972.
The sound quality is decent, albeit slightly lo-fi. What the recordings lack in polish, they make up with pure energy. High volume cuts like "Just Like an Aborigine" and "Free John Now" are further examples to back up the argument that punk rock was invented in '60s Detroit.
It's hard to imagine Up gaining a mass audience, but the music on this disc makes one wonder why the band never broke on a large scale outside of the Midwest.

BIOGRAPHY

Ann Arbor, Michigan-based proto-punks the Up were formed in the spring of 1967 by vocalist Franklin Bach, then the stage manager and announcer at Detroit's famed Grande Ballroom. Rounded out by guitarist Bob Rasmussen, bassist Gary Rasmussen and drummer Vic Peraino (soon replaced by Scott Bailey), the group was managed by David Sinclair, the brother of local White Panther Party leader John Sinclair, and as such their history became inextricably linked with that of local revolutionary rockers the MC5, with the two bands even living together at the same Ann Arbor commune. The Up regularly opened for the MC5 as well, and were the opening act at the legendary September 1968 show at the Union Ballroom that so impressed Elektra Records president Jac Holzman that he offered a contract not only to the Five but also the second act on the bill, the Stooges; as both groups went on to national notoriety, the Up remained mired on the regional circuit, becoming the primary musical outlet for the White Panthers' propaganda after the MC5 broke away from the party. Finally, in 1970 the Up recorded their debut single "Just Like an Aborigine," a blistering cut similar in sound and spirit to the punk records which emerged from Britain at the end of the decade; a second single, "Free John Now!" - a rallying cry in honor of the imprisoned Sinclair -- followed a year later. Although the group disbanded in 1973 - Gary Rasmussen later resurfaced in Sonic's Rendezvous Band - they left behind enough material for a 1995 retrospective LP, Killer Up!

Notes:
This is a nice novelty show for any Bruce fan...very short but complete.
The gig took place at a small nightclub in downtown Lancaster called The Village, which still stands and operates today.  Bruce and the band had been
gearing up for what would become the monstrous 'Born In The USA' tour.  While there was no formal announcement of this gig, word spread that Bruce was
showing up for a brief "practice" show at The Village...and he did not let the 500 or so locals down.  The show is indeed short (33 minutes) but it is complete
and packs a nice punch.  The mix is a bit odd but the recording is pretty clean with some minor tape fluctuations here and there.  The real oddity here is that Max
Weinberg is playing a drum machine(!!!) and the synth (Danny F?) is quite loud in spots, which gives this show a cheesy sound at times.  While this critique might
sound like I'm trying to deter you from downloading this, I'm simply giving my humble opinion of what to expect...it's still a great nugget from mid-80's Bruce.

I recieved this show a few years back in a trade.  While I always enjoyed it, I found my original disc to be very slow.  So, for this torrent,  I took it upon myself
to correct the pitch using SoundForge 6.0, giving this a much-needed speed correction.
I've created artwork which is in the file and added an mp3 sample as well.

What an incredible show, and Jimmy in particular is playing some of the best guitar of the tour! The entire band is in a no nonsense mood, playing the best they can. No Quarter and Ten Years Gone are beautiful and Achilles Last Stand and Stairway To Heaven are exquisite. Jimmy's solo in Trampled Underfoot is one of the best he's ever done on that song and the funky Communication Breakdown encore caps what is probably one the best of the six LA Forum shows.

The band returns for their fourth night at The Forum and it's evident that some of the initial frenzy has worn off as the show gets underway. Page's playing is very loose during The Song Remains the Same, almost to a fault at times. Plant once again mentions the Badge Holders before Nobody's Fault But Mine. Page shreds wildly through an excellent guitar solo. As the song ends, Plant tells the crowd "we intend to try and put as much gusto as possible into a saturday night for ya." The band's final performance of In My Time of Dying features a short impromptu rendition of Rip it Up during Plant's "oh my Jesus" break. Page is on fire during a powerful Since I've Been Loving You, his fingers tear across the fretboard in a furious cascade of notes during the guitar solo. No Quarter features an excellent blues improvisation during Jones's piano solo. Page blazes through an epic guitar solo.

A woman near the taper can be heard shouting "and did you know that it is against the law to rock and roll in the United States of America?" as The Battle of Evermore comes to a close. Plant introduces Going to California as "the search for the Badge Holder." The walls of the arena quake under the power of Bonzo's thunderous fills near the end of Kashmir. The band hammers through an aggressive Trampled Underfoot, which is dedicated to Robert Johnson. Page shreds through a somewhat erratic guitar solo. Bonzo is introduced as "the mainstay of the whole driving force behind sleeping with Led Zeppelin" before a marathon Over the Top. The band pummels the crowd with a frantic Achilles Last Stand. Plant hints at Communication Breakdown before Stairway to Heaven, which features an amazing guitar solo from Page. As the band returns to the stage, Plant announces "Led Zeppelin salutes a permanent Badge Holder" after greeting groupie Lori Maddox. Whole Lotta Love is preceded by a funky intro. The band closes the show with an explosive Communication Breakdown, its first and only appearance in 1977.

The tape is yet another excellent Mike Millard recording. Very clear and well-balanced, if a bit hissy at times.
