OCTOBER 1975 BROADCAST RECORDING BY THE NEW FLEETWOOD MAC The recording on this CD, a show performed in October 75 by the Mac-McVie-McVie- Buckingham-Nicks line up, three months after the release of their first album together, is an early illustration of the new Fleetwood Mac in their initial phase. Their eponymously titled album had not at this point charted and the single Over My Head had only reached No. 20 on Billboard. However, listening to this broadcast concert today it is not difficult to understand how it was that within another year Fleetwood Mac would be among the biggest rock bands on the planet.

To suggest that Fleetwood Mac have had their fair share of trouble and strife throughout their lengthy career, now spanning almost 50 years, would be an understatement of some magnitude. Indeed, soon after the group had their first real success with hit single Albatross in the closing months of 1968, lead guitarist and main songwriter Peter Green was diagnosed with schizophrenia following his consumption of LSD. Green left the group in 1970, a month following their last chart hit for five years, the ironically titled Peter Green composition Man Of The World. In 1971, original guitarist Jeremy Spencer walked out of the group in order to join a religious cult and in 72, Danny Kirwan, by then principle guitarist and songwriter, was asked to leave following a serious drinking problem that caused violent outbursts and refusals to play. Internal struggles were also present at this time; John McVie was drinking too much as well, and his marriage to Christine was under pressure, and Mick Fleetwood s wife began an affair Kirwan s replacement, guitarist Bob Weston. Weston was soon sacked, following which the group s 1973 US tour was cancelled. In 1974 a fake Fleetwood Mac emerged and began performing in the US. Put together by ex-manager Clive Weston, who claimed he owned the name, the new line-up did not contain anyone who had ever previously performed with the group. Although the matter was resolved via the courts, for the best part of 74 the real Mac were prevented from performing or recording. At the end of 1974 Bob Welch, rhythm guitarist, songwriter and by then musical director, was fed up with the legal hassles and constant touring, and he left the group in December. Searching for a replacement guitarist, Mick Fleetwood came across Lindsey Buckingham and offered him the role. Buckingham accepted on the proviso that his partner, Stephanie Nicks, could also join. The pair were added to the line-up on New Year s Eve 1974, less than a month following Welch s departure. And the rest, as they say, is history, albeit one that provided for many more years of internal struggle, but one augmented by the kind of success that most bands can only dream of.

FLEETWOOD MAC - Fleetwood Mac Who's the New Girl?

Who's the New Girl?

Trodd Nossel Studios
Wallingford, CT
September 23, 1975

I got this great concert at another torrent site (thanks to lvdeadhead for the up) and was floored.
The sound was much clearer than previous MP3 versions I had heard.   That said, the tape still had major problems.
It sounded as if it were culled from at least two different sources
(later seeing the wavs virtually proved this) so my first mission was to match EQ curves.
Secondly, there were several dropouts and/or distortions that I repaired/minimized.  I also used minimal NR in some spots.
Last but not least the track separations were quite bad, some even with repetition of several seconds of sound,
so I cleaned those up.   I hope you enjoy my efforts.

Station Man - 6:14
Spare me a Little - 4:52
Rhiannon - 6:39
Why - 4:10
Landslide - 3:38
Over My Head - 3:06
I'm So Afraid - 5:02
Oh Well - 2:57
Green Manalishi - 5:46
World Turning - 8:40
Blue Letter - 3:59
Hypnotized - 7:06

One of the very first Mac concerts with Lindsay Buckingham & Stevie Nicks,
it provides a rare opportunity to hear the new lineup perform such classics as “Hypnotized”, “Spare Me a Little” and “Why”.
The latter especially comes to life with Buckingham at the helm.
This performance comes from the very short period where they played older FM tunes out of necessity rather than as an homage.

Album Notes
by cdbaby
"Great Caesar's Ghost is a band of of seven accomplished musicians that give their interpretation of great american music. Much like jazz and classical musicians, they strive to re-read the great compositions of decades past. Included in their repertoire is original music and selections from the blues and rock oriented music of the late sixties and early seventies era. This includes The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, many of the Blues Masters, and more. GCG's sound is generated by three guitars, bass, a Hammond B-3, congas, timbales, and dual drum kits, which capture the true spirit of the music that they play. For those who like jam oriented blues/jazz/rock, Great Caesar's Ghost will not dissapoint."

Great Caesar's Ghost has received national airplay on XM RADIO for the past four years and has quickly begun building a national following. CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE!!

Larry Hunter
Bassist Larry Hunter is a veteran singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Having performed with Merl Saunders, Floyd Dixon, and Kingfish with Bob Weir, he has also performed and recorded with Moby Grape, Steve Marriott, and The Jerry Miller Band.
All this experience, teamed with his writing style, culminated in the formation of his own band, HEROES. Over the last six years most of his time has been spent in the studio producing and playing guitar and bass on two albums, while playing bass on four others. One of those efforts is his own album, "CABIN FEVER".  (http://www.cdbaby.com/larryhunter)
Ray Penney
"Ray Penney's faultless guitar playing will transport you." (Val Leonhart Smalkin, Syndicated Music Columnist). "A sound so crisp and resonant, you can almost feel his fingers sliding across the strings." (New York Newsday). "Through so many stylings, encompassing so much territory, Ray Penney was born to play guitar." (Southampton Press) This is a sampling of reviews received by award-winning guitarist Ray Penney. He has toured with various outfits and done extensive studio work. He has shared the stage with such greats as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Albert Collins. As a solo artist he has released multi-award winning children's instrumental recordings, some of which can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Goodmorning-Guitar-Classic-Melodies/dp/B0002MIDE6 , as well as being recorded on various solo guitar collections distributed by Mel Bay Publications.
Mario Cruz
Born and raised in Ft. Worth, Texas, at an early age, Mario was plucking out tunes by ear from his mom's piano. Now residing in New York, he has had the privilege to tour and/or record with an impressive list of some of music's biggest luminaries. From jazz artists Bob James to David Benoit; pop icons such as Bruce Springsteen, Joe Cocker and Linda Ronstadt; legends like Lou Rawls and Ray Charles; Mario's musical interests are equaled only by his diversity.
As early as high school, he was writing compositions for his jazz ensemble. This created an interest in jazz music that was encouraged by highly regarded musical educators Curtis Wilson of TCU, Leon Breeden of the University of North Texas, and Whit Sidener of the University of Miami. While playing with these great ensembles, Mario used this opportunity to arrange and compose many pieces that were performed and recorded, even by the Ft. Worth Symphony.
At the University of Miami, Mario had the good fortune to work with jazz great Jaco Pastorius. He subsequently went on the road and recorded with Jaco and the "Word of Mouth" Orchestra. Featuring an "all-star" band that included "Toots" Thielemans, Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer and Peter Erskine, this experience proved to be an invaluable musical inspiration. However, it was joining up with the legendary rock-fusion group "Blood, Sweat and Tears" that paved the way from Mario to make his way to New York.
Several years of paying "dues" opened other professional doors such as world tours with Bruce Springsteen, Dave Edmunds, Natalie Cole and blues artist Willie Deville. It set the ground work for an extensive resume of TV, jingle and motion picture studio work as a player. In addition, Mario has written and arranged many compositions that have been used in TV shows, commercials, jingles and movie soundtracks; recorded on his and other artists’ CD’s; and performed by many academic and professional jazz and symphonic ensembles.

Larry ran Applewild Studio for almost ten years, working with a variety of local and big name talent. Larry also recorded two of his own albums (Mr. Gray) with fellow band mate Bosco Michne. Both albums were produced by G.E. Smith. After closing the studio, Larry began spending more time with his Les Pauls, which had become neglected during his tenure as engineer, producer, and studio manager. It was at this time that Great Caesar's Ghost came together. Larry has played with G.E. Smith of Saturday Night Live fame, Simon Kirke of Bad Company and Free, and Paul Ossola of the Saturday Night Live Band. He has recorded Steve Holly of Paul McCartney and Wings, T-Bone Wolk of Hall and Oates and the Billy Joel Band, Jazz pianist Eliani Elias, and GE Smith, among many others.
