0:00--0:54 of Mountains of the Moon patched from DAUD
Extracted, patched, and SHN by Syd Schwartz sydster@ix.netcom.com
Source info: SBD->DAT->CD (via standalone burner)->EAC (tested for accuracy 4 times on 3 seperate computers)->SHN
Patch source: DAUD from FOB/DFC:ortf bar; Schoeps mk4> kc5-actives> cmc6> ad1000 (clamped to drinkrail), taper R. Clay; CD mastering McCloskey, SonyR500> AES/EBU monster cable> ZA2> SoundForge/CDArchitect> Plextor8x20->EAC->CD->EAC (tested for accuracy 4 times on 3 seperate computers)->SHN. Track 2 (Box of Rain) begins from DSBD source as on discs 1 & 2, but is then patched with same FOB DAUD beginning at 3:13 through the end of the show as this was missing from the DSBD. Tracks 3-7 are all SBD->DAT->CD (via standalone burner)->EAC (tested for accuracy 4 times on 3 seperate computers)->SHN.
There are several different soundboard sources of the 4/99 Phil & Phriends run coming into circulation as of early 2001. I have sampled 4 different ones (which are all that I am aware of as of mid-March) and this is by far the sonically superior source and mix.
FAQ about this version (the E-Jade Mix) April 1999 Phil & Phriends shows:
Q: How does this version differ from other the other soundboards in circulation
A: There are at least 3 other versions in circulation that I have heard. 2 of the 3 have one analog gen (one of those is pitched slightly slow). The other DSBD has additional cuts (i.e., Alligator is hacked) and has a different sound to it--the vocals are way out in front and the overall balance between the instruments is less than ideal.
Q: So why do you refer to this version as a different mix?
A: Conjecture on my part really. I've heard from more than one source that these shows were a good deal closer to official release than most people think. Close enough, that post-production work on the master tapes was underway (though I don't know how much, who did it or what the final sonic vision was supposed to sound like). My guess is that the other full DSBD was probably from the 2-track DAT master or the unmixed multi-track tapes, while this version has undergone some dB adjustments on an individual instrument level to provide the level of balance and overall presence. Again, this is pure guesswork on my part but I my hypothesis is backed up by several "can't confrim nor deny" answers I've gotten from a few folks in the know. If you have further info, conspiracy theories, or a good recipe for Peking duck, please get in touch with me via email.
Q: Why didn't you break up Help on the Way and Slipknot into two seperate tracks? How lazy!
A: Think of it as an imperfection in a fine piece of woodwork. It adds character and personality.
Q: Why didn't you patch the missing parts with one of the other soundboard sources?
A: First of all, as I mentioned, 2 of the other boards had analog gens. I actually gave it a shot, but found the difference in sound was actually more jarring from the analog gen boards than from the outstanding "drink rail" DAUD. And the other DSBD was missing the donor rap/Box of Rain encore entirely, so it wasn't an option.
Q: Do you honestly believe that this is the definitive soundboard source of this show?
A: Yes.
Q: OK, so lets accept for the moment that your theory on the source of these shows is correct. If they were in post-production, why are there cuts and missing segments?
A: My understanding from the Lone PhGunmen is cuts were intentionally introduced when these shows were given to family/friends so that leaks could be tracked.
Q: So does the circulation of these show pose a problem for the GD and/or Phish camps?
A: From what I've been told, there might have been an eyebrow or two raised a couple of months ago, but at this point its not an issue. Prior to 6 months ago, the widespread trading of this show could have caused utter mayhem, bedlam, chaos and the issuance of small craft advisories. On both coasts.
Q: Why call it the "E-Jade mix"
A: During the entire comparison process amongst the different versions, and the subsequent patching process, the volume coming from the stereo and computer speakers frequently woke my 18 month-old daughter, Emily Jade Schwartz. As she's had to endure repeated looping of miniscule and titanic excerpts of this music, and I'm a narcissistic proud parent, the moniker seemed only natural.

BIOGRAPHY
by Gary Hill, AMG
Drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment) had a brainstorm that gave birth to the band Transatlantic. He envisioned a band of himself, Neal Morse (Spock's Beard), and Jim Matheos (Fates Warning). As it turned out, Morse was available, but Matheos was not. Morse came up with the idea of recruiting Roine Stolt (Flower Kings) instead, and all that was left was a bassist. Portnoy contacted Marillion's Pete Trewavas and the group was set. They recorded and released their first album, SMPTe, in 2000, working around everyone's main band obligations. The band issued two albums in 2001, the concert recording Live in America and the studio album Bridge Across Forever, before going on hiatus due to the departure of Morse, who had made the decision to devote his life to Christianity, and chose not only to leave Transatlantic and Spock's Beard, but mainstream progressive rock altogether. The band reunited (with Morse) in 2009 and released its third long-player, The Whirlwind, which was followed by a pair of live outings, Whirld Tour 2010: Live in London and More Never Is Enough: Live @ Manchester & Tilburg 2010 in 2010 and 2011, respectively. The group issued an eponymous fourth studio album in early 2014.

STEVE EARLE - TERRAPLANE
Steve Earle – Terraplane (2015)
Terraplane takes its title from the 1930s Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit model, which also inspired the Robert Johnson song, “Terraplane Blues.” It is Earle’s 16th studio album since the release of his highly influential 1986 debut Guitar Town. As its title suggests, the album is very much a blues record, some of which was written while Earle toured Europe alone for five weeks with just a guitar, a mandolin and a backpack.

JACK WHITE – Live from Bonnaroo 2014
Jack White – Live from Bonnaroo 2014 (2014)
Jack On June 14th 2014, Jack White unleashed what was arguably one of the best performances in the 13 year history of the Bonnaroo festival. In an expansive field in Manchester, TN filled with approximately 70,000 fans, Jack let loose a tour-de-force, 26-song, two-hour and forty-five minute career-spanning set.
From White Stripes songs like “Hotel Yorba” and “Icky Thump” to Raconteurs numbers such as “Top Yourself” and “Steady, As She Goes” through “Blue Blood Blues” by the Dead Weather…not to mention a wide selection of his solo material and covers of two surf rock classics “Pipeline” by the Chantays and “Misirlou” by Dick Dale, as well as a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “The Lemon Song”. Featuring three vinyl LP’s (white, blue and black) comprised of the full show audio, housed in a soft-touch, telescoping box, and topped off with a lenticular television on the cover, this is by far the most ambitious Vault package yet. The audio has been mixed by Third Man’s in-house engineer, three time Grammy Award-winner Vance Powell.

BOB DYLAN – Shadows in the Night
Shadows In The Night is Bob Dylan’s newest studio album, and marks the first new music from the artist since 2012’s worldwide hit Tempest.Shadows In The Night may be the most improbable moment yet in Bob Dylan’s latterday career. By releasing a collection of standards from the Great American Songbook, Dylan, presumably inadvertently, joins in a trend begun 14 years ago by Robbie Williams. Ever since Williams proved that you could sell 7m copies of Swing When You’re Winning to an audience who’d never previously evinced much interest in the work of Cole Porter or Johnny Mercer, the Great American Songbook album has become a kind of sine qua non among rock stars of a certain vintage. They’ve all been at it, from Paul McCartney to Carly Simon to Linda Ronstadt.
Bob Dylan – Shadows in the Night (2015)
Shadows In The NightIt’s obviously up against some stiff competition from lingerie adverts and festive albums that came with free Christmas cards, but there’s an argument that Shadows in the Night may be the most improbable moment yet in Bob Dylan’s latterday career. Rod Stewart seemed to treat the whole business less like a canny career move than a terrible endurance test to inflict on the general public. By the time he released his fifth Great American Songbook collection, you got the feeling that even the most indefatigable fan of the jazzy standard was on the floor tearfully pleading for mercy, and in danger of developing a nervous twitch brought on by the opening chords of Mack the Knife.
However, Dylan has latterly made a career out of doing the exact opposite of what most of his peers do. They dutifully tour their big hits, or perform classic albums in order; he takes to the stage and either brilliantly reinterprets his back catalogue or wilfully mangles it beyond repair, depending on whether you’re the kind of critic who gets whole paragraphs out of a change of syllabic emphasis in the lyrics of All Along the Watchtower or an audience member who’s heard three-quarters of Like a Rolling Stone without realising it’s Like a Rolling Stone. They make albums that cravenly attempt to conjure up the atmosphere of their best-loved classic works; he makes albums that conjure up a world before Bob Dylan existed – filled with music that sounds like blues or rockabilly or country from an age when pop was as yet untouched by his influence.
