Here is a gem from the short-lived band Little Village, formed by the all-star lineup of John Hiatt, Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, and drummer Jim Keltner in 1992. Unfortunately, when their album was released later that year, most fans were dissappointed with the result. Although a solid album, it just wasn't up to the expectations and high standards set by the talent involved. The songs, which were all listed as collaborations of all four members, were not as memorable as most from Hiatt's (or the other members) recent solo albums. As a result, the group disbanded later that year, and each went back to their own solo work. However, they did tour that year in support of their album, and the tour was much more successful. It is a joy to hear these guys playing together as a band in concert. They are all consumate musicians and just seem to be having fun. For the most part, the Little Village songs also come across much better live than on record, as Ry Cooder's great guitar and slide work is much more prominent in the longer, looser, live versions. And live, the band also gets to do some of their earlier songs from each of their solo repertoires. So, although Little Village was somewhat of a failed experiment for these guys, their live show, as demonstrated here in Boston on one of their last shows from the American tour, was great, and we were fortunate to have had these guys get together for this tour and interesting musical venture. This is an excellent FM recording, probably the best of the recorded versions of Little Village live shows. So, check 'em out, the once and only Little Village.

BIOGRAPHY
by Stephen Thomas Erlewine
During the late '70s, Rockpile was the touring band for both Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe. Like Edmunds, the band was passionate about traditional rock & roll. Like Lowe, the band played with a reckless, trashy abandon. Driven by the powerful rhythm section of drummer Terry Williams and Lowe's bass, guitarists Billy Bremner and Edmunds were free to spit out crushing rock, blues, rockabilly, and country licks. With their fierce live energy and unpretentious rock & roll, the band fit easily into the post-punk new wave at the end of the decade.
Although they only released one album as a group -- 1980's Seconds of Pleasure -- the band provided support for most of the albums Lowe and Edmunds recorded in the late '70s. After the rushed release of Seconds of Pleasure, the band toured one last time before splitting apart, largely due to mismanagement. All of the members continued to occasionally collaborate with each other throughout the '80s.

In Concert #82-24 - Steel Breeze / Paul Carrack-Nick Lowe
Here's one of those Westwood One "In Concert" shows that paired two very different artists with very different audiences. Steel Breeze was an American rock band from Sacramento and scored some early MTV exposure with "You Don't Want Me Anymore." They're working a hard rock, rock/pop metal style of music Nick Lowe teamed up with England's favorite utility infielder Paul Carrack to round out his "Noise To Go" band for a blast of British pub-rock. At the time, these two bands would have had two very different audiences.
The vinyl was VG+, but I spent many, many hours pulling off every minor click and pop that I could find, and now it plays like it's a M-. A bit of surface noise on the quiet parts where they talk to the audience but it sounds great.
Flac files of wavs. I've included scans of the cue sheet and disc label. I've tracked all the commercials and station breaks so you can leave 'em in or delete 'em. Fans of Pat Benatar might find the commercial on the first disc of passing interest; it's clearly done in her style but I'm sure that's not Benatar singing.

NICK LOWE - UNTOUCHED TAKEAWAY
For fans' eyes only-- Yep Roc Records is proud to present the first-ever live compact disc from musician, producer and raconteur Nick Lowe. Untouched Takeaway pulls you out of the cheap seats and escorts you direct to the front row for two evenings of Lowe's soulful and uniquely anecdotal compositions. These two tours find Lowe backed by The Convincers (2001) and The Impossible Birds (1995) whose members include Geraint Watkins, Steve Donnelly, Robert Trehern, Bill Kirchen and Paul Riley. Lowe's work as a producer has brought him great acclaim. He co-founded Stiff Records and in the process helped launch the British Indie label boom, as well as, the careers of artists such as Elvis Costello and The Pretenders. As a solo artist, Lowe has worn a variety of moods. These 17 tracks span the course of his multi-decade career and prove once and for all why he is the "Jesus of Cool."
