CACTUS - Live In The USA

Cactus - Live In The USA - 2013

Revived in the mid-2000s, Cactus played B.B. King's in New York in 2006 – captured on Live in the U.S.A. – as a warm-up for their triumphant appearance at the Sweden Rock Festival. It being the first time Jim McCarty, Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert – with a new lead vocalist in tow – had performed as Cactus since 1972, Live in the U.S.A. documents their return in gloriously ragged fashion.

CACTUS - LIVE IN JAPAN

Cactus Live in Japan

The current version of Cactus went over to Japan in 2012 to record two shows, one audio and one video, “which will come out next year,” according to Appice. He describes that first performance as a “kick-ass show,” and it is an absolute barnburner, with Cactus rolling through classics such as their versions of Mose Allison’s Parchman Farm and Willie Dixon’s You Can’t Judge a Book (By Lookin’ at the Cover), plus Rock & Roll Children and That’s Evil. Appice said, “Live in Japan is the first night. It’s not complete. It’s a single-disc. But it was the first night we played in Tokyo, and it was great. It was a kick-ass show. I mean, we’d never been to Japan before, and the crowd was great. It was sold-out, and (guitarist) Jim McCarty was on fire, and the band just sounded great.” Pete Bremy is the bassist for this occasion.

Cactus - Sellersville Theater - Sellersville Pa - April 19th 2012

Cactus is back !!!!  Not much to say , Great band , Jim McCarty was on fire, one of my favorite
guitar players. Carmine was just pounding the drums, he amazes me every time I see him . Jimmy
Kunes fits right in with this band , his vocals are spot on. Now for the bass ... let's face it
we all miss Tim Bogert , but Pete Bremy is a damn good bass player and holds up his end quite well.
with Randy Pratt back there on harmonica Cactus is still one of the all time great live (or studio)
bands out there . Get out there and go see them .... NOW !!
Thanks a lot Bcironmaiden for sharing this gem !!!

CACTUS - WLIR FM BROADCAST - 1971

Cactus - WLIR FM 1971

Cactus was initially conceived in late 1969 as a supergroup of the Vanilla Fudge rhythm section of bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice with guitarist Jeff Beck and singer Rod Stewart. However, Beck had an automobile accident and Stewart joined Ronnie Wood in the Faces.
So Appice and Bogert brought in blues guitarist Jim McCarty from Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels and The Buddy Miles Express, and singer Rusty Day (born Russell Edward Davidson) from the Amboy Dukes.
This line-up managed three albums (Cactus, One Way... Or Another and Restrictions) before interband troubles led to McCarty quitting at the end of 1971. Shortly afterwards Rusty Day was fired from the group. The fourth and last Cactus album ('Ot 'N' Sweaty) featured original rhythm section Bogert and Appice joined by Werner Fritzschings on guitar, Duane Hitchings on keyboards and Peter French (ex-Leaf Hound) on vocals. {src: wiki}

CACTUS - Barely Contained - The Studio Sessions (2004)

Cactus - Barely Contained - The Studio Sessions(2004)

320kbps

This two-CD collection is a companion volume to Fully Unleashed: The Live Gigs (2004) and contains the Cactus (1970), One Way. . . Or Another (1971), Restrictions (1971) and 'Ot 'N' Sweaty (1972) LPs and associated extras. The initial aggregate was a supergroup of sorts, with both Carmine Appice (drums) and Tim Bogert (bass) having been the formidable rhythm section behind Vanilla Fudge, Rusty Day (vocals) hailing from the Amboy Dukes, and Jim McCarty (guitar) late of Mitch Ryder's backing ensemble the Detroit Wheels. Even though Cactus was overshadowed by Led Zeppelin, they created their own blues-based fusion, rivalling the likes of MC5 in terms of sheer sonic intensity. While their debut included fiery reworkings of Mose Allison's "Parchment Farm" and Willie Dixon's "You Can't Judge a Book by the Cover," some of the best material consists of the band's compositions. Among them are the ballad "My Lady From South of Detroit," the heavy rocker "Let Me Swim" and the languid bluesy "No Need to Worry." Barely Contained: The Studio Sessions (2004) also highlights three outtakes from the first album, an original thrasher titled "Sweet Little 16," as well as "The Sun Is Shining" and "Rumblin' Man." The latter originally surfaced on the single-disc Cactology: The Cactus (1996) compilation. The follow-up One Way... Or Another (1971) sported a cohesive and less raw sound, benefiting no doubt from the help of noted engineer Eddie Kramer. However, "Big Mama Boogie" and the propulsive "Rockout, Whatever You Feel Like" are evidence that Cactus remained loud, raucous and driven. The Chicago-style "Hound Dog Sniffin'" is offered here as the sole leftover circa One Way... Or Another. The personnel shifted after their next long-player Restrictions (1971) as former Atomic Rooster frontman Peter French (lead vocals), Werner Fritzsching (guitar) and Duane Hitchings (keyboards) replaced Day and McCarty -- who split at the conclusion of the Restrictions tour. Incidentally, the final performance by the earliest incarnation can be heard on Fully Unleashed: The Live Gigs. By the time of the half-studio/half-concert 'Ot 'N' Sweaty (1972), much of the magic had significantly dissipated resulting in an uneven affair. Although "Bad Stuff" -- a blatant rip-off of Jimi Hendrix' "Foxy Lady" -- is a hard groove that soars thanks to Hitchings impressive contributions.Review by Lindsay Planer(allmusic.com)

Cactus was initially conceived as early as late 1969 by the Vanilla Fudge rhythm section of bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice with guitarist Jeff Beck and singer Rod Stewart (also from the already dissolved Jeff Beck Group).
