ALBERT KING WITH STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN - IN SESSION...

Vaughan was an Albert King acolyte. On December 6, 1983, they joined together for a memorable performance for the Canadian television In Session program. The series would pair musicians who were similar in style but had rarely if ever played together. King and Vaughan would never share the stage again. In Session was released as a CD during 1999 and would top the blues charts in The United States. It was King’s biggest selling album. Now it has been reissued with an accompanying DVD of the performance. The only thing better than hearing Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan play together is to see them play together.

In Session (Deluxe Edition) is an essential release for anyone even mildly interested in the blues. Albert King is the teacher and leads Vaughan through the set but allows him to exchange leads with him. The vocal interaction and banter between the two is also included, which give the proceeding an intimate and authentic feel.

IRON BUTTERFLY - LIVE AT FILLMORE EAST 1968

When the San Diego quartet took New York’s Fillmore East in the spring of 1968, they had one album, Heavy, under their belts but a myriad of lineup changes that would put veteran bands to shame. At the time, the band was singer/organist Doug Ingle, drummer Ron Bushy and new guitarist and bassist Erik Braunn (all of 17 at the time) and Lee Dorman – both of whom replaced the recently-departed members Danny Weis, Jerry Penrod and second vocalist/percussionist Darryl DeLoach, who had left after recording sessions for Heavy. The shift in personnel wasn’t the only sign of things to come, though. While the sets draw heavily from Heavy‘s track lineup, including “Possession,” “Unconscious Power” and the double set closers “So-Lo” and “Iron Butterfly Theme,” the sets include songs that would be committed to tape by the new lineup for their next, smash hit of an album, including the album’s eventual title track, the hard-driving jam “In-a-Gadda-de-Vida,” not yet the Top 40 single that would drive sales of the forthcoming record to over 4 million domestically but not nearly lacking in intensity.

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS - Live at Beachland Ballroom 11/05/2003

Drive-By Truckers - Live at Beachland Ballroom
November 5, 2003
Cleveland, OH.
Soundboard @320

The Drive-By Truckers mine the blue-collar side of small-town Southern life for songs as rich as well-written short stories. The Truckers’ characters retain a certain humanity. The noir-like tales aren’t populated with heroes and villains, but everyday sinners struggling with fallibility, temptation and bad luck.
