CHEAP TRICK - Live Liverpool 1979

Live Liverpool 1979
Cheap Trick

I was going to call this "Would you clap louder if I was Ritchie Blackmore?" since that is what the guitarist says in frustration as he gave it his all, only to be greeted by tepid applause.

I think they got spoiled by the enthusiastic Japanese fans on the Budokan tour!

Highlight for me was when they were joined on stage by Dave Edmunds

The tracks broadcasted were

1 Stiff Competition
2 On Top of the World
3 Big Eyes
4 Ain't That A Shame
5 Let It Rock (with Dave Edmunds)
6 Promised Land (with Dave Edmunds)
7 Need Your Love
8 I Want You to Want Me

Here's the deal... There are multiple versions of this 12/31/73 show in circulation.  The most common (and the only one that I've seen) is supposed to be from the Pre FM reels (which were most likely damaged, keep reading).  On the heavily circulated version there were numerous flaws, most were either digital noise or clipping.  A new transfer was just done from a Reel To Reel FM Master.  This new FM master did not have any of the flaws that were present on the common "Pre FM" version, but FM Master was of slightly lesser quality.

The solution?  Small portions of the new FM master were spliced into the higher quality version when there was digital noise, clipping, etc.  Those defects have now been eliminated.  The splicing was done well, at most points it's unnoticeable, but there were a couple of splices that didn't line up perfectly, one of those would be the splice that provides the intro to Liz Reed.  Either way, this show sounds much better than it did before, and it's the best source I know of to be in circulation.

Here are some of the other edits that were done... There was digital noise in some of Bill Graham's band intro, this was spliced in OK from the other copy.  Various count-ins were slightly clipped, but are now spliced in seamlessly.  These are usually when KSAN DJ's talk, those short station ID's have also been put back in.  The KSAN announcer's (Tom Donahue) count-in at New Year's was similarly clipped, this has been restored, clipped notes at the beginning of Jessica have also been restored.  There were many other additional edits, but you get the picture.

Through the crucible of a pioneering, improvisational/blues collaboration by an eclectic mix of acclaimed, contemporary musicians - BLUE FLOYD endeavors to deconstruct the classic compositions of the legendary PINK FLOYD, into their primal, elemental form. As much an homage to the influence of Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters as a re-discovery of both FLOYD classics and rarities, BLUE FLOYD plays iconoclastically familiar songs, heard again as if for the first time. GOV'T MULE - SCO MULE TOUR SEATTLE WA. - 02/18/2015

Photo by Heath RobsonGov’t Mule kicked off their Sco-Mule tour with guitarist John Scofield last night at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. The band was joined by special guest John Popper during the show, which also featured a couple of song debuts.Mule began the night with a few guest-free songs before Scofield finally took the stage in the middle of the first set. The guitarist first came out for a take on “The Other One Jam” that featured lyrics from “3rd Stone From The Sun,” “Norwegian Wood,” “Paint It Black” and “Gimme Shelter.” Next came a rendition of the Medeski, Scofield, Matin & Wood collaboration “Hottentot” that was followed by Mule’s first-ever version the Allman Brothers Band’s “Instrumental Illness.” The set then wrapped up with a take on “What Is Hip?” The band returned to kick off the second set with Mule’s debut of the Scofield original “Wabash” before digging into a “Sco-Mule” that included “Hottentot” and “Oye Como Va” teases. Next, Blues Traveler harmonica whiz John Popper joined the fray for Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon,” which played into “Drums” and a set-closing “Thorazine Shuffle.” Sco-Mule came back out with Popper to end the night on a “Soulshine” that was sandwiched around “Tupelo Honey.”Gov’t Mule and John Scofield will continue their tour tonight at the McDonald Theatre in Eugene, OR. DAVID NELSON BAND - Waikapu, Maui, Hawaii - The Mill House at the Maui Tropical Plantation - 02/08/2015

Artist: David Nelson Band
Date: 8 February 2015
Location: Waikapu, Maui, Hawaii
Venue: The Mill House at the Maui Tropical Plantation

Lineage: AT933(4.7k) > bbox > Sony PCM-M10 (24/48) >
Audition 3.0 (tracking/ edits/ resample 16/44.1) > FLAC

This show is the final night of the 2015 DNB Hawaii Tour
as well as a benefit for Manao Hana Hou Radio.

In addition to Duke Davis on sax (who sat in on other shows
on this tour), DNB was joined by two guys from
Brown Chicken, Brown Cow:
Xander Hitzig on fiddle and
Matthew Del Olmo on banjo

Xander added a nice fire to "Cumberland Blues".
You could also call the "Crooked Judge" encore
incendiary with all three guests joining in.

Unfortunatley, this is the only show on the tour
that I was able to attend. I read the thread that
Budboy had running over at the PhilZone and someone
mentioned that Wally Ingram was on fire.

I really enjoyed Wally playing with DNB last year
and was happy to see and hear him again this year.
And yes, he was on fire. In fact, the entire band
was on fire. During the closing remarks, Mark Keys
turned to the band and said, "that was quite a show!"

The final verse from "Box Of Rain" said it once again
for all the folks who made the trip from the mainland -
"such a long, long time to be gone and a short time
to be there". Hope to see everyone again in 2016!

Aloha from Maui,
