BIOGRAPHY
by Rachel Sprovtsoff (AllMusic)
As the only woman officially billed with the Grateful Dead, Donna Jean Godchaux held her own on-stage with the rest of the boys. While not a founding member, nor was she with the band for too long, a female voice belting out "Dancin' in the Streets," or any Dead tune for that matter, was an oddity in itself after almost a decade of all-male singing. However, her history as a singer isn't relegated to jam band history. Her backing vocals can be found on all kinds of records before and after her stint with the Dead.
Godchaux started out as a session singer in Muscle Shoals, AL, then moved on to Memphis and Nashville and then finally to the West Coast. She worked with a group of backup singers (Jeannie Green and Ginger and Mary Holladay) who called themselves Southern Comfort and is credited as Donna Thatcher on Cher's 1969 release 3614 Jackson Highway, as well as on Elvis Presley's From Elvis in Memphis and Elvis Back in Memphis albums, among others. With the Grateful Dead, she sang on Tales of the Great Rum Runners (1974) and Tiger Rose (1975) from Robert Hunter.
Her involvement with the Dead started after her husband, Keith Godchaux, decided he wanted to join the band after seeing them at a West Coast gig. It just so happened that the Dead were in need of a keyboard player when their original one, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, fell ill. Keith was brought on before Pigpen's death and soon after, Donna was asked to join as an added vocalist. She spent seven years, from 1972 to 1979, singing with the Dead and as backup for the Jerry Garcia Band as well. As for Grateful Dead records, she appears on the 1973 studio effort Wake of the Flood, released on the then newly formed Grateful Dead Records; 1974's Grateful Dead From the Mars Hotel; and 1975's Blues for Allah, as well as various other compilations. Not to be outdone with side projects, Donna and Keith put out a self-titled album in 1975 with Garcia on guitar and several collaboratively written tunes. Other albums featuring their work include the 1984 release The Ghosts Playing in the Heart of Gold Band with material recorded between 1979 and 1980 by various groups involving the two, including their version of the Garcia/Hunter tune
After becoming road weary from the constant touring, the two left the band in 1979. A year later, Keith died in a car accident and Donna has since married Bay Area musician David MacKay, who founded the Tazmanian Devils. Since the Grateful Dead disbanded in 1995, Donna and some of the remaining members have gotten together to play in one form or another, but nothing official. In the late '90s, she formed the Donna Jean Band with her son with Keith, Zion, who plays rhythm guitar and percussion. Filling out the rock & roll band are Will McFarlane on guitar and Joey Holder on piano. She and MacKay also have a son, Kinsman, who plays in a band of his own.

----------------------Background-----------------------------------
This is the concert formerly thought to have taken place on 11/23/70 at the Anderson Theater in New York City. This show has been shrouded in mystery and confusion over the last 30 years ever since it first entered circulation in 1973. However, fresh research has unveiled what is most likely the true story behind this classic Grateful Dead show.
On 11/14/70 at Frank Zappa's Fillmore East Late Show, Grace Slick came out on stage, on behalf of Bill Graham, to announce an unscheduled concert featuring the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane the following Monday, November 16th. As it turned out, the Airplane were in the middle of breaking up and Grace was pregnant. So instead of the Airplane, Hot Tuna filled in to share the bill with the Dead. A few days later, on November 18th and 19th, Traffic played at the Fillmore.
There are several pieces of evidence which now point directly to the"11/23/70 Anderson Theater" show being correctly identified as Fillmore East 11/16/70. 1) Traffic has been confirmed, in a letter written by the Kleinhans Music Hall, as having played at the Kleinhans Music Hall, Buffalo, NY on 11/23/70. This firmly places them out of New York City on that date. Thanks to Greg Shaw for this help. 2) Bill Graham introduces the Dead. The identification of his voice is clear, as never before, on this new transfer. Bill Graham and the owner of the Anderson Theater were not friendly with each other and Bill Graham would never have introduced the Grateful Dead in the Anderson Theater. 3) A 1:55 snippet of Hot Tuna playing Hesitation Blues precedes the Dead's show on the first generation 10" reel. 4) After Bob Weir sings the Frozen Logger off-mic, several people on stage can be heard attempting to get Jack Casady to join in saying, "Hey Casady, why don't you play" and "Hey Jack, hey Jack, c'mon up". Hot Tuna played on 11/16/70 at the Fillmore and they are not known to have played at the Anderson Theater. 5) An eyewitness who attended the 11/16/70 Fillmore show clearly recalls Steve Winwood and Jorma Kaukonen sitting in with the Dead. 6) Music was commonly played over the P.A. between sets at the Fillmore to promote upcoming shows. Elton John played at the Fillmore East the following weekend, November 20th and 21st as the warm up for Leon Russell. This was his first New York City appearance. 7) On page 382 in his book Long Strange Trip, Dennis McNally mentions this show as being from the Fillmore East, 11/16/70.

NOTE: this is sourced directly from the KBFH discs. There is a streaming audio version available but it does not include "Middle Man." This show is often attributed to April 5, 1981, but that is clearly the broadcast date of the KBFH show, as it is the date printed on the KBFH record label. It's likely that this is from November 26, 1980. That show was simulcast via satellite with more songs. However, the set list I've seen of the simulcast does not include "Lowdown."
In 2013 I digitized the Boz Scaggs / King Biscuit Flower Hour show that was broadcast on April 5, 1981. That's the broadcast date of the syndicated discs, the actual show is likely to have been recorded on November 26, 1980.
This is direct from the KBFH discs. I cleaned the discs with Titebond II wood glue and then went through it all on Audacity and declicked the show, one click at a time. I've tracked all the commercials and KBFH breaks so they can be left out if they're of no interest. There's one "star turn" where Dave Mason does a pretty heartwarming commercial for Miller Beer that may be of interest to Dave Mason completists. He really "sells" the commercial.
Most of this show is available in streaming audio from Wolfgang's Vault, but oddly enough, their version of the show does NOT include "Middle Man" which was on the original broadcast discs. So...while this duplicates most of what Wolfgang's Vault has got posted, there's at least one song that they've left out of their version.
The sound quality is top-notch, the drums really snap, the two background vocalists are well-defined...all in all, it's worth checking out even if you already have the show archived.
One thing that always struck me about this show is that Boz explains that "Georgia" was about a friend locked up for a love affair with a 13-year-old.... nowadays we'd call that pedophilia, but he just sort of passes over it as if it was normal. Times change....

LOTUS - Nomad (remastered) + Live 6.8.2013
Lotus – Nomad (remastered) + Live 6.8.2013 (2014)
10 years ago, Lotus released the first studio album of our career – an album that has stood the test of time with live staples like “Spiritualize,” “Plant Your Root,” “Greet The Mind” and fan favorite rarities like “Colorado” and “Ball Of Energy.” To celebrate the anniversary, Lotus rerelease Nomad via Harmonized Records! The digital version is remastered and includes a live performance of the complete album from the June 2013 show at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Pittsburgh.
Combining elements of jam bands and electronic dance rock, Lotus was formed by brothers Jesse Miller (bass/sampler) and Luke Miller (guitar/keyboards), Steve Clemens (drums), Chuck Morris (percussion), and Mike Rempel (guitar) while they were attending Goshen College in Indiana in 1999. They recorded their debut album, Vibes, in concert in the fall of 2001 and self-released it in 2002. A second live album, Germination, was released on Harmonized Records on May 13, 2003. Nomad, the group’s first studio recording, followed on September 21, 2004. The Strength of Weak Ties, another studio album, appeared on April 4, 2006. Lotus was signed to the SCI Fidelity label for its third live album, a double disc called Escaping Sargasso Sea, released May 29, 2007. Five months later, Copy/Paste/Repeat: Lotus Remixed was issued on November 6, 2007. Lotus’ third studio album, Hammerstrike, came out on October 14, 2008.

REVIEW
by Tim Sendra (AllMusic)
Rock & Roll Christmas is a wildly uneven collection of holiday songs by rockers from the '60s, '70s and '80s (with a short jump back to the '50s on Chuck Berry's "Merry Christmas, Baby"). The songs are thrown together with no sense of pace or context. For example, Bon Jovi's super smooth ballad "I Wish Everyday Could Be Like Christmas" is followed by Bob Seger's wall-shaking "Sock It to Me, Santa," which in turn is followed by the Moody Blues' ponderous and overwrought "What Child Is This." On the positive side, the disc does contain a few Christmas classics that may be hard to find elsewhere, namely Billy Squier's "Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You," Elton John's Beach Boys/Phil Spector-inspired "Step Into Christmas," the Kinks' "Father Christmas," Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "I Believe in Father Christmas" (which a clever compiler would have put side by side with the Kinks' track), and the Waitresses' typically snarky "Christmas Wrapping." The makings of a very good compilation are here; the follow-through is faulty with too many duds like Elvin Bishop's "Silent Night" and the Bon Jovi ballad on-board. If you find it at a nice price, it may be worth it anyway. http://fp.io/b41c856f/

Nice CD displaying the complete version of this show. Yes, Won't Get Fooled Again is complete with a good final!! The sound quality is certainly better compared with the Final Stage With Keith (CD) (TR014 Tristar). The medley of My Generation is wonderful. The spine of the cardboard sleeve states PORYDOL POCP- 2000. (*reverse the R and the L and you have "Polydor") The number on the CD itself is 12151977 (both on the disc and printed on the front of the disc).

Devils And Deserts. (The Godfatherecords :: G.R.346/347)The Arizona tape used in this release by Godfather has long been in circulation and is an excellent quality well balanced soundboard recording. - Godfather uses judicious mastering on the already excellent soundboard tape resulting in a very noticeable expansion of the soundstage. This also helps to separate all the instruments which results in a recording which makes you feel like you are onstage with the band.<-(Info taken from original info file). http://fp.io/657af58e/
