Billy Sheehan /Bass

Having played straightforward hard rock with Mr. Big since the tail end of the '80s, bass virtuoso Billy Sheehan formed Niacin as an outlet for his jazz fusion and prog rock inclinations during the mid-'90s. The trio also featured keyboardist John Novello and drummer Dennis Chambers, both musicians who had crossed frequently between the worlds of jazz and rock during their careers. With Niacin, Novello devoted himself especially to the Hammond B-3 organ, a longtime mainstay of both jazz and prog rock. The band recorded a self-titled debut album in 1996, following it up in 1998 with High Bias. An import-only concert recording, Live!: Blood, Sweat and Beers, surfaced later that year as well. For their next album, Niacin moved from Stretch to Magna Carta, the label that became virtually synonymous with technique-oriented neo-prog rock at the turn of the millennium. Deep was released in 2000 and featured the group's first vocal track, courtesy of special guest Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), as well as Toto guitarist and session ace Steve Lukather.

NIACIN - HIGH BIAS - 1998

Niacin - High Bias (1998)

Label: Niacin

"NIACIN features John Novello on Hammond B3 organ & keyboards, Billy Sheehan on bass and Dennis Chambers on drums. All are seriously accomplished musicians and play everything from rock, funk, jazz, fusion, progressive and beyond. They are an instrumental group, so the focus is obviously on interesting composition and inspired improvisation. And they do get into some pretty unbelievable improvisations throughout... without a question their playing will surely blow your mind. John Novello plays a mean B-3 organ a la Keith EMERSON, etc. while Dennis Chambers provides a steady groove on the drums. Add bassist virtuoso Billy Sheehan (ex Mr BIG) and you have the band NIACIN. CD also includes a few guest appearances (Chick Corea, Pat Torpey, Kenwood Dennard, Alex Acuna). This CD will take you through a variety of adventurous mood, tempo and style shifts. No real time on the album for deep relaxation as this album continuously moves throughout. Highly recommended album...!"

RICHIE HAVENS - THE BEST OF..

Richard Pierce "Richie" Havens (January 21, 1941 – April 22, 2013) was an American folk singer and guitarist. He is best known for his intense and rhythmic guitar style (often in open tunings), soulful covers of pop and folk songs, and his opening performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Havens' career benefited enormously from his appearance at the Woodstock festival in 1969 and his subsequent featured role in the movie and album made from the concert in 1970. His first album after that exposure, Alarm Clock, made the Top 30 and produced a Top 20 single in "Here Comes the Sun." These recordings were Havens' commercial high watermark, but by this time he had become an international touring success. By the end of the '70s, he had abandoned recording and turned entirely to live work. Havens came back to records with a flurry of releases in 1987: a new album, Simple Things; an album of Bob Dylan and Beatles covers; and a compilation. In 1991, Havens signed his first major-label deal in 15 years when he moved to Sony Music and released Now. Nobody Left to Crown was issued by Verve Forecast in 2008. On April 22, 2013, Havens died of a heart attack at home in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was 72.
