STEVE EARLE, TOWNES VAN ZANT & GUY CLARK - Together at the Bluebird Café (2001)
Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt & Guy Clark – Together at the Bluebird Café (2001)
Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, and Guy Clark had a lot in common as revered Nashville singer/songwriters on the fringes of the country music industry, which made this gig at the famed Bluebird Café in Nashville, a benefit for the Interfaith Dental Clinic, an impressive lineup. Recorded September 13, 1995, it was an old-fashioned guitar pull, with each performer alternating as his fellows pitched in with a little guitar playing and encouragement. That’s as much as they got together, however; there are no actual duos or trios on the disc. It does seem that Clark is singing along a little bit on Earle’s “Mercenary Song,” though, and an unidentified voice that sounds a lot like Emmylou Harris applies some harmony on Clark’s “Immigrant Song” and Earle’s “Copperhead Road.” The performances are off the cuff to the point of being more like a casual get-together than an actual concert. Van Zandt, whose songs are the most depressing (and that’s saying a lot), is the funniest, especially discussing his own dental needs in the light of losing a tooth in a dice game. He also goes up on the lyrics to “Pancho and Lefty,” which doesn’t keep it from being as amazing a song as ever. In fact, the songs just seem to get better and better as these three rough-hewn craftsmen demonstrate their remarkable abilities. Those who know their work will delight in hearing favorite songs in an intimate live setting; those who do not may be introduced to a world of great songwriting.

Lineage source B: FM/AM? Tape (TDK SA, unknown gen)->Denon DRM-800A->Creative SB Live->SoundForge (speed correction, normalizing, x-fading onto source A)
A rather low-fi recording of a radio broadcast, possibly AM. The three first encore numbers seem to have been left out; The Closer You Are, Johnny Darling and No No Cherry, which were played before Ride My Face To Chicago. There are some minor interruptions by an announcer, with very little or no music missing, and I decided to make this Warts 'N All, without editing these out. Nor did I use fills from the audience recording to for the tape flip or the missing songs. The audience version has been up in Samples, and once we get it seeded, we might consider making some kind of combined version.
The last 6 minutes are taken from a tape I got from another trader.

THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND-
Tweeter Center,
Camden, New Jersey
8/17/2007
One of the West's Best El Grande 2007!
History was made on this night, with Bob Weir sitting in on a great version of "Franklin's Tower," but there were many other highlights on this stormy night as well. This "Black Hearted Woman" may be the best in recent history, and Derek played a blockbuster version of "Dreams" that reached incredible heights. Warren sang an inspired version of "Into the Mystic," and the band finished with a "Whipping Post" that was mind-bogglingly intense. You gotta hear this one!

THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND - Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, Charlotte, North Carolina - 08/10/2007
THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND-
Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre,
Charlotte, North Carolina
8/10/2007
It was 104 degrees in Charlotte on this date but it was even hotter on stage as the Allman Brothers Band burned the house down with their outstanding performance! Due to scheduling problems, the Brothers were unable to play Charlotte last year and were hungry and excited to make up for it this year! Paul Riddle, drummer for the original Marshall Tucker Band, sat in as a special guest on drums for "You Don't Love Me." This version of "Trouble No More" features a bluesy intro jam that sounds like the guys picking on the back porch, and "Who's Been Talking" and "Every Hungry Woman" are both scorching. These versions of "Elizabeth Reed" and "Jessica" show Derek playing some of the best ABB solos of his career.
