(Soundboard)
This is a recent cassette transfer and the sound on it is outstanding. I think it's the best sounding soundboard of the Rumours tour - and an upgrade from what I've previously heard of this recording. It's a seemless recording meaning there are no cuts or edits between tracks. There is a very slight cut at the end of disc one, but it's right at the end of Gold Dust Woman,no vocals are cut. There is also a slight cut in at the beginning of disc two, but again no vocals are sliced off.
I have no info on who taped the show, but a big thanks to everyone responsible for getting this tape transferred - it's a really great sounding show.
Artwork included.

Members of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers performed with the ABB at this show, with Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench and Steve Ferrone sitting in on a scorching version of "Southbound" and creating what Warren calls "the Allman Brothers Heartbreakers Band." The band plays a rare "short" version of "Elizabeth Reed" here, and it’s a red-hot jam with great solos from Derek and Warren. A particularly energetic "Revival" is another highlight, and Warren does justice to both Van Morrison and The Band.

The band really mixed up the setlist for this show, busting out several rare tracks. “Who To Believe” is given a sensitive reading, and Gregg’s soulful vocals have never sounded better. An extended “44 Blues” goes deep into the heart of the blues, and is followed by a blistering “Can’t Lose What You Never Had.” Another deep cut is the smoky blues of “Gambler’s Roll,” and again Gregg sounds fantastic. Definitely not your average show!

TOWNES VAN ZANT – Sunshine Boy: The Unheard Studio Sessions & Demos 1971-1972
Townes Van Zandt – Sunshine Boy: The Unheard Studio Sessions & Demos 1971-1972 (2013)
The embodiment of the tragic troubadour, Townes Van Zandt‘s prolific and sublime output reached what some would deem its apex with the release of two 1972 albums: High, Low and in Between and The Late Great Townes Van Zandt. Van Zandt’s lonesome folk-blues songs were at their most passionate, desperate, and visceral at this point, and his painful path continued to escalate in difficulty as his masterworks were less than commercial successes and his heroin habit drained his spirit heavily. As time went on, the strength of his writing, especially in this prolific period, would elevate Van Zandt to levels of almost mythical American legend status, and his songs would be covered by bigger names in country and folk.
Sunshine Boy collects rough studio mixes,…
…alternate takes, and demo recordings from this golden 1971-1972 period, all previously unreleased. The 28 tracks here offer an especially intimate window on the artist, with spare demos and stripped-down studio mixes spotlighting Van Zandt’s weathered vocals and straightforward, often heartbreaking storytelling lyrics. The studio half of the collection features languid blues covers (“Who Do You Love”), bluegrass romps (“Blue Ridge Mountains”), and country-fried western rockers (“Two Hands,” “Mr. Mudd & Mr. Gold”). An early alternate mix of Van Zandt’s biggest single, “Pancho & Lefty,” is heard here without its mariachi horns or string arrangements. Without these elements to date it, the crushingly sad ballad takes on a timeless feel, more direct than any era of singer/songwriter sounds it may have been created in. The 12 off-hand demos included here are what truly offer an intimate portrait of the singer in his prime. Van Zandt sounds especially candid, accompanied mostly by his own guitar and singing softly to himself between takes. Tracks like “Heavenly Houseboat Blues,” the traditional “Old Paint,” and a very laid-back take on the Stones’ “Dead Flowers,” are all as disarming as they are enjoyable. The loose approach of these demos doesn’t take away at all from their power. The space and simplicity just allow more room for Van Zandt’s unique character to come through. Though all of the songs on Sunshine Boy found their way to official albums in more fleshed-out versions, these uncluttered takes offer a beautifully bare look at a young artist whose combination of astonishing gifts and troubled life would eventually make him an American folk hero.

THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND-
Miller Light Stage,
City Stages Festival,
Linn Park,
Birmingham, Alabama
6/18/2006
The Allman Brothers Band played to one of their biggest crowds of the year at City Stages, and the huge crowd didn't go away hungry! A spirited version of "Revival" gets the show started on a good note, and "Guilded Splinters" develops a rock solid groove. A juicy extended jam on "Les Brers in A Minor" takes the music to the edge, and proves that the ABB are still the best improvisational rock band around. American Idol Taylor Hicks adds some tasty harmonica licks to "One Way Out" and helps the band finish in style!
