RUSH - SECTORS

The real meat of these new reissues though will be the brand new 5.1 versions of three signature Rush albums – “Fly By Night”, “A Farewell To Kings”, and “Signals”. There’s one hitch, though – the three new releases will be divided up as bonus DVD discs, packaged one per volume across the three volumes of “Sector” reissues.
Rush – Sector One (Box Set)
Taking listeners on a journey through Rush’s seminal, prog-heavy early period, Sector 1 is the first in a series of three box sets released by the band in 2011. Collecting the band’s first five albums, Rush, Fly by Night, Caress of Steel, 2112, and the live album All the World’s a Stage, the set shows Rush finding their feet artistically as they grow from a Led Zeppelin-inspired blues-rock band on their debut to the wildly ambitious band that released 2112, an album with a 20-minute title track. As a bit of nostalgia, the albums are all repackaged in CD scale re-creations of the original LP jackets, giving Rush fans the opportunity to pour over these albums as they were when they were released, even if it’s in a somewhat diminutive form. Also, as one would expect from a reissue, all of the albums here have been remastered, and for the audiophiles out there, the set even includes a bonus DVD-Audio version of Fly by Night, which features both a stereo and a 5.1 Surround mix of the album, making Sector 1 a great way to experience the early days of Rush.

Rush – Sector Two (Box Set)
Neatly chopping up the band’s career into three segments, Rush’s Sector series of box sets breaks the Canadian prog rockers’ early musical legacy into easy-to-digest morsels. On Sector 2, we find the band transitioning from its early developmental period into mainstream success with the albums A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, and the live album Exit…Stage Left. This period of Rush’s history finds the band gaining acceptance from a wider audience with songs like “Tom Sawyer,” “Closer to the Heart,” and “The Spirit of Radio” while still managing to push its sound into increasingly progressive territories with more complex arrangements, new styles of music, and a wider range of instruments. This remastered box set features these iconic records repackaged in scale replicas of the original vinyl LP jackets, and those interested in a new listening experience will want to check out the DVD-Audio version of A Farewell to Kings, which features both stereo and 5.1 Surround mixes of the album.

Rush – Sector Three (Box Set)
Sector 3, the third installment of Rush’s Sector series of box sets, finds the band diving headlong into the ‘80s with a more synth-oriented approach. Featuring the albums Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, and the live album A Show of Hands, this period of Rush’s career finds them focusing more on Geddy Lee’s multi-layered synthesizer excursions and finds guitarist Alex Lifeson moving into more of a support role as he begins to experiment with a more effects-heavy sound. Despite these changes, it would still prove to be a strong period for them as three albums in the set achieved platinum status in the United States (with all five of them hitting platinum in their native Canada). Serving as a blast from the past, these remastered reissues are repackaged in tiny re-creations of the original vinyl LP jackets, and the set also features a 52-page booklet containing lyrics and unreleased photos from the era. Also of interest to die-hard fans and audiophiles, the set includes a DVD-Audio version of Signals that contains both stereo and 5.1 Surround mixes of the album for those who wish to explore all the sonic depths that the album has to offer.

All proceeds from the sale of this album go to benefit Victims of Hurricane Sandy:

In late October of last year, Hurricane Sandy bore down on the Atlantic seaboard. The result was devastating for coastal areas from the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic to New England and reached as far inland as the Appalachian Mountains and parts of the Midwest and Canada. Storm surge, high winds and power outages that lasted weeks after the storm contributed to loss of life and unprecedented property losses. The coasts of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island were permanently redrawn as the Atlantic reclaimed some of America's favorite beaches.

In response, The WaterWheel Foundation (with the help of the Mimi Fishman Foundation) quickly launched a ticket auction for Seafood's NYE run at Madison Square Garden. Eight pairs of tickets raised over $10,000, which was then donated to The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties in NJ and The Food Bank for New York City to assist with their recovery efforts. To continue aiding in these efforts, JEMP Records is pleased to announce the release of Seafood's May 3, 1993 show from the State Theatre in New Brunswick NJ, as a download at LiveSeafood.com.

New Brunswick was 67th on the tour of 73 shows spanning February through May. The location was significant as Trey and Page have roots in New Jersey and this was only their second headline show in the state. Set I highlights included the Buried Alive opener with extended piano intro, a standout Weigh > Chalk Dust Torture, Colonel Forbin's Ascent > Fly Famous Mockingbird/Vibration Of Life (during which, according to Trey's narration, Paul administered memory-erasing gas) and remnants of Mockingbird reverberated into Possum.

Set II blasted off with a non-stop succession that began with AC/DC Bag > The Curtain followed by a must-hear combination of Tweezer > Manteca > Tweezer. During Tweezer the band gave a nod to fellow New Jerseyan Carole King by weaving I Feel The Earth Move into the jam. Runaway Jim followed by Big Ball Jam, Love You and My Sweet One put the spotlight on Fish before the classic close of Amazing Grace and Highway To Hell.

Hurricane Sandy Relief was recorded by Paul Languedoc and mastered by Fred Kevorkian. All the vendors involved in this release donated their time for the cause.

THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND - Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, Colorado - 09/1/2006

THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND-
Red Rocks Amphitheatre,
Morrison, Colorado
9/1/2006

Despite cold, rainy weather the band delivered a great show at Red Rocks for their final concert of the year. The opening combo of "Don’t Want You No More/It’s Not My Cross To Bear" is potent and fiery, and always a great way to start a show. "Who’s Been Talking" has a transcendent solo from Derek, and "Midnight Rider" has Gregg’s son Devon singing family harmony. "Hot ’Lanta" and "Gilded Splinters" is a powerful 1-2 combo that packs a big punch, and this is one of Derek’s best "Dreams" solos, sounding as if he is channeling the natural harmonics of Red Rocks to create incredible feedback. "Revival" and "Anyday" are joyful and powerful, and so much more. One of the best shows of the year!

THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND - The Allman Brothers Band (1969, MFSL 2012)

The Allman Brothers Band – The Allman Brothers Band (1969, MFSL 2012)

Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity’s 180g LP of The Allman Brothers Band joins the unparalleled reissue imprint’s other Allman titles in presenting the inimitable group’s music in the most lifelike, uncompromising fidelity anyone has ever heard. Opening up the dynamic contrasts, clearing direct paths for the frequency ranges, and ensuring optimal balances and neutrality, this edition takes listeners to the producer’s chair at New York’s Atlantic Studios as the sessions went down. The Allman Brothers Band has never sounded so crisp, clear, or defined.
Having already cut its collective teeth via live shows throughout the South, the Allman Brothers Band was properly vetted for its initial major-label foray. In particular, Gregg and Duane Allman had done stints in several other collectives that recorded a handful of long-forgotten records. Duane, too, established himself as a go-to whiz-kid slide and lead guitarist, becoming a session instrumentalist for Muscle Shoals’ FAME Studios and playing with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, and others.
He and organist/vocalist Gregg’s deft touch and innate knack for soulful tonalities help define his namesake group’s eponymous debut, notched with raw-boned R&B and purifying gospel motifs that seeped into the duo’s consciousness while growing up in Jacksonville. Complemented by likeminded lead guitarist Dickey Betts and a trio of similarly minded masters, the siblings quickly changed history on this 1969 set famous for stunningly resonant blues, spirit-moving soul, and polyrhythmic rock.
Entering with a memorable one-two punch in which fluid jazz lines mutate into an anguished 12-bar blues exchange between Gregg and Duane, continuing with an edgy and worthy take of Muddy Waters’ “Trouble No More,” and closing with the landscape-shifting workout “Whipping Post,” a preview of things to come, The Allman Brothers Band contains no flaws. Then there’s the aching of “Dreams,” a melodic 12/8-time piece showcasing slide-guitar voodoo and psychedelic aftertastes. Don’t miss this stellar work.
