BROTHERS OF A FEATHER - Live At The Roxy is a live album by Chris and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes.
Brothers Of A Feather: Live At The Roxy is a live album by Chris and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes. It was released on July 10, 2007, and was later followed by a DVD release with extra tracks in September, 2007. The album features two new songs, some old Black Crowes songs, as well as some covers. The album is a compilation from several shows at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, California recorded during the 2006 Brothers of a Feather tour. The show features an intimate duet performance by the Robinson brothers, with most of the songs featuring only one or two guitars and vocals, with occasional accompaniment from Mona Lisa Young and Charity White, the Black Crowes' backing vocals duo, as well as a guest appearance by Tenor Saxophonist Dave Ellis of The Left Coast Horns. - wikipedia

Included notes: What can be said about this legendary Allman Brothers Band set that
hasn't been said before? Not much, but for the sake of those unfamiliar with this
particular show, here they are, the original lineup, performing the last set
ever to be played at the venerable Fillmore East.
Country influences were not yet prominent in the group’s sound, but their
unique blend of rock, blues and jazz was reaching stratospheric regions by
this point. Duane Allman and Dickey Betts’ telepathic lead guitar playing
combined with Berry Oakley's incredibly inventive, melodic bass to achieve a
pure, improvisational genius, equal to the likes of the greatest jazz
performers. Add Gregg Allman's bluesy organ, authentic gritty vocals and the
dynamic, propulsive drumming duo of Johanson and Trucks, and you have
one of the most innovative and captivating bands to ever play the Fillmore.
After the classic Bill Graham introduction, the group warms up with
"Statesboro Blues." After three more, relatively short bluesy numbers - all of
which are played wonderfully - they get down to serious business on "In
Memory Of Elizabeth Reed." Here, the band takes flight, soaring upward with
Betts' and Allman's inspired guitar playing, riffs vacillating from beautiful to
furious. This is also a testament to Berry Oakley's bass playing as an integral
melodic factor to the band's overall sound.
Following a straightforward, concise rendition of "Midnight Rider," the band
takes flight again on the fierce, propulsive instrumental "Hot ‘Lanta." Next up
is the ever popular "Whipping Post," here stretched out to almost twenty
minutes of epic jamming that never loses interest as Duane Allman explores
the farthest reaches of possibility on slide guitar. With the band's allotted
time having just run out, Bill Graham returns to the stage to say thanks and
goodbye to the Fillmore East audience. The band, still hungry to play, begins
the classic riff that launches "You Don't Love Me," and before you know it,
are off on another epic jam that would go down in history as the last song
ever played at the Fillmore East.
Of course nobody knew it at the time, but Duane Allman had less than 100
days left to live after this performance. He would be killed in a motorcycle
accident on October 29, 1971 in Macon, Georgia, when his bike collided
with a truck. Approximately a year after that tragic loss, Berry Oakley died
in another motorcycle accident, only three blocks away from the site of Allman's
fatal accident, on November 11, 1972.

PETE TOWNSHEND – The Quadrophenia Demos (2011/2012)
Pete Townshend – The Quadrophenia Demos (2011/2012)
Quadrophenia has got to be one of The Who’s most widely recognized albums. The first of two exclusive 10? EPs featuring six demos from the` Director’s Cut’ re-release of the landmark 1973 QUADROPHENIA album produced, authorized and overseen by Pete Townshend. This individually numbered 10? EP will be the first of two Record Store Day exclusives. The combined two releases encompass 11 of the demos from the forthcoming box set, and provide a unique insight into the creation of this landmark album. As a companion piece to last year’s Black Friday release, The Quadrophenia Demos 1, we get The Quadrophenia Demos 2! It’s enthralling to hear what Pete Townshend created by himself without the rest of The Who. And while the rest of the band may…
…have added balls to the sound, Townshend’s demos are pretty fully fleshed out. The EP features demo versions of “I’ve Had Enough,” “Drowned,” “Is It Me,” “Dr. Jimmy” and “Love Reign O’er Me.” Limited edition 10? vinyl.

REVIEW
by Steve Leggett
The Wood Brothers play a sort of Americana version of jazz, or country with an edge, or folk with some rhythmic bite, or maybe secular gospel that faces darkness with a wry and stubborn hopefulness. It's really hard to pin these guys down into a precise category. Chris Wood's tight, fluid, and always surprising basslines are a big part of why this group works, but so too are his brother Oliver Wood's songs, which are easygoing on the surface, but reveal sharply observed personal story lines that reach against odds toward ragged redemption. This live set features the duo with drummer Jano Rix and Clay Cook guesting on lap steel, and while these songs have already appeared on Wood Brothers releases, the live format shows just how sturdy and fluid this band actually is, and the songs seem to unfold and flow at the center of it all. "One More Day" has a gray-day feel, but the dogged hopefulness of having "one more day" makes this otherwise sad song into one of elegantly resigned joy. "Smoke Ring Halo" is a simply fascinating and charming song, framed perfectly by Chris Wood's bass and Rix's sparse, precise drumming. Oliver Wood's droll, offhand, and sometimes fragile singing style fits his songs perfectly, and when he sings "Don't let the angels take your smoke ring halo," it's obvious how good a songwriter he is. "Stumbled In," a song about literally stumbling into Heaven, is another gem, part country, part gospel, part honky tonk jazz, and the band pulls it all off with sparse sharpness. At times the Wood Brothers sound like a stripped-down alt-folk version of the Band, or maybe the perfect opening act for Tom Waits, and captured live, Chris Wood's stunning basslines and Oliver Wood's quietly brilliant songs take everything into some pretty interesting and refreshing territory. This is Vol. 1, so more live material is still on its way. Undoubtedly it will further reveal what a fine little band this is.

JERRY GARCIA , DAVID GRISMAN TONY RICE - THE PIZZA TAPES VOL 1-3
Chances are, the most devoted fans of these three musicians have heard these tunes before, thanks to the crafty pizza-delivery boy who filched the tapes from Garcia's kitchen soon after they were recorded in 1993. That said, the warm, intimate performances here are very much worth an official CD release. The sessions came about when Tony Rice was in Northern California to record the delightful duet-collection Tone Poems with David Grisman. Garcia stopped by to hang out and jam with his old buddy Grisman and with Rice, one of his guitar idols. The disc retains all of the joy and spontaneity you'd expect from such an informal setting--Grisman even elected to leave in the between-song banter, which mostly consists of genuine overflowing mutual praise. The music itself, primarily traditional folk songs, is quite engaging thanks to Garcia's affecting, soulful, pained vocals and to the picking of all three. The contrast in flat-picking-guitar styles makes for an interesting combination: while Rice is technically superb, marvelously quick, and of remarkably clarion tone, Garcia is much more emotional and visceral, feeling his way along. There are a handful of exploratory, off-the-cuff jams that add to the impulsive nature of the whole project. Had the threesome actually intended this to be released, it probably wouldn't have the appeal it does, for this is the product of friends and music lovers, not recording artists.
Back in February 1993, David Grisman invited Jerry Garcia to join himself and Tony Rice in the studio. The trio performed together over two days on February 4 and February 5. As the story has it, Garcia’s recording were stolen soon afterwards by a pizza delivery boy and eventually leaked out to the public via a series of bootlegs. In 2000 Grisman released portions of the sessions as The Pizza Tapes. Now Grisman is offering an “Extra Large” 170 minute version of The Pizza Tapes through Acoustic Oasis, Grisman’s new download-based label. The Pizza Tapes – Extra Large Edition offers 16 previously unissued alternate takes along with the original master takes in their original sequence. - amazon.com
