Notes:
Hi, time for some more Camel again. This one comes from the Breathless tour in 1978. Pete Bardens had left the band immediately after the album had been finished. The artistic problems between Pete and Andy Latimer had grown to such an extent that Pete decided to leave, being of the opinion that Andy drifted too much towards a mainstream market. Bass-player Richard Sinclair convinced his cousin and ex-Caravan band-mate David Sinclair to join Camel on tour, but the band even enlisted a second keyboard player, Jan Schelhaas being the choice. David had promised to help out only on that specific tour and left the band after that, Jan stayed with Camel until 1981.
The recording is quite a nice one, not perfect, perhaps a B+, but with a very fine setlist, including e.g. Air Born (sadly fades out).
I had been planning to upload this for a long time, but one thing that still puzzles me kept me from doing so. La Princesse Perdue appears twice as you can see from the track listing and I've been unable to get any information about this. I've conducted extensive research, but none of my Camel collector friends knew anything about these nor several Camel specialists I contacted. However, I decided to leave the recording as it is, hoping for somebody here who might know how to solve this mystery. Is one of the recordings from another gig etc. http://fp.io/b4e1238d/

REVIEW
by Thom Jurek/ALLMUSIC
In New Orleans 35 years ago, the Original Sixth Ward Dirty Dozen band was born in the city's Treme neighborhood. Coming out of the 100-plus-year tradition of the local social club scene -- in this case, the Dirty Dozen Social and Pleasure Club -- they started rehearsing with no goal other than that. Eventually renaming themselves the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, they did this for years before they began playing steady gigs at a Seventh Ward nightspot and later at another uptown club. The DDBB built an enormous repertoire, and in the process innovated on the brass brand tradition, which was flagging very badly at the time. They incorporated funk, bebop, and more into their sound. The DDBB began a renaissance; they influenced every brass band that came after them. Twenty Dozen, produced by Scott Billington, is their 12th album. Original members Gregory Davis (trumpet, vocals), Roger Lewis (baritone, soprano sax), Kevin Harris (tenor saxophone), Efrem Towns (trumpet, flügelhorn), and Kirk Joseph (sousaphone) are rounded out by Terence Higgins (drums), Kyle Roussel (keyboards), and former member Jake Eckert (guitar). The jazz and funk are in the marrow now, but this time Caribbean and West African tinges are added to the mix. The 11 cuts here include seven originals, a cover of Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop the Music," and two brass band standards: "E-Flat Blues" and "When the Saints Go Marching In." On the opener, "Tomorrow," the funky grooves established by Eckert's guitar and guest B-3 by Nigel Hall introduce a killer ska horn vamp that is drenched in joy. "Jook" plays on Nigerian Afro-beat with a forceful arrangement that cross-pollenates with reggae -- the baritone solo by Lewis just pops. "Best of All" showcases highlife married to Caribbean calypso with killer interplay between the brass and guitar. The bassline played by Joseph's sousaphone and Higgins drumming drive the tune from deep in the cut. The Jackson tune is the most unique cover of the song to date (check Higgins' drumming in the intro). Trombonist Corey Henry guests on it too. Tradition also plays a big part in the album: "Paul Barbarin's Second Line" is faithful with a knotty guitar line in the back, and the two standards underscore heritage as it meets harmonic invention. Lewis' funktastic, hilarious "Dirty Old Man" sends the listener away -- hopefully -- dancing her ass off. Twenty Dozen proves that, although there are many fine brass bands in the Crescent City, the DDBB are still the kings.

GEORGE HARRISON – Early Takes Volume 1: Music from the Martin Scorsese Picture Living in the Material World (2012)
George Harrison – Early Takes Volume 1: Music from the Martin Scorsese Picture Living in the Material World (2012)
Originally released as part of the deluxe Blu-ray edition of Martin Scorsese’s 2011 documentary Living in the Material World, the 2012 disc Early Takes, Vol. 1 rounds up ten of George Harrison’s demos dating from the ’70s. The exact dates are fuzzy, as the liner notes are little more than hagiography, but a quick scan of the titles pegs the great bulk of them — six, to be precise — from All Things Must Pass, with two others dating from 1976's Thirty Three & 1/3 (“Let It Be Me,” “Woman Don’t You Cry for Me), another from Living in the Material World, the 1973 album (“The Light That Has Lighted the World), and, finally, a perfectly fine cover of Dylan’s “Mama, You’ve Been on My Mind.” Several of these are solo acoustic demos, some are rough band run-throughs, none are all that far…
…removed from the finished product, so the collection winds up just a tad anticlimactic for containing nothing but unreleased music: it all feels cozy. And while it’s hard not to wish there were a surprise or two along the way, the familiar warmth certainly has its charms, too.

The Brew ( Pre-Camel )with Philip Goodhand-Tait), I Think I'll Write A Song, Vertigo, 1972.
The British progressive rock group Camel formed in 1972 when the blues-rock trio Brew, consisting of Latimer, bassist Doug Ferguson, and drummer Andy Ward. After backing singer Philip Goodhand-Tait on an album, the trio was joined by organist and vocalist Peter Bardens and began rehearsing original material.

CAMEL - live at the Philipshalle Düsseldorf, Germany - 11/09/1979
Camel live at the Philipshalle
Düsseldorf, Germany
9 November 1979
audience recording
artwork included
This is my first upload from the I Can See Your House From Here tour. Even though Camel were going into a more and more "accessible" direction, this recording still proves the point of their excellent musicianship and the emphasis on instrumental parts. The mixture they found for the setlist is quite satisfying from that point of view!
I'd rate the sound quality as B to B+. Unfortunately, I did not get any information about the lineage from the trader.
So my lineage is: traded FLACs --> dB Poweramp (converting to wav) --> setlist check, lossiness check --> checksums --> you
So what you get are the unaltered original FLACs from the traded discs.
Artwork created by me is included, people who've downloaded more than one show might notice that I cling to a certain style in the Camel artwork I do...;o) .
Even if I only was 5 years old when the recording was made, I can still enjoy the fact that this concert took place in my hometown ;o)
Enjoy!
