JEFFERSON AIRPLANE - FIRST AND LAST
Jefferson Airplane - First and Last [1966]
An interesting concept at work here: nine tracks from (according to the sleeve note) Grace Slick's first appearance with the Airplane on November 6, 1966 at the Fillmore, immediately followed nine tracks from (again, according to the sleeve note) Signe Anderson's last appearance with the band, also at the Fillmore, on October 15 of the same year.

LENNY KRAVITZ - BLACK AND WHITE AMERICA
Lenny Kravitz – Black and White America (2011)
For his ninth album, Lenny Kravitz found much of his inspiration close to home. In fact, the very spirit of Black and White America came from the locations in which the music was made from a tiny, 400-person community in the Bahamas to the streets of Paris. And out of his experiences as a true citizen of the planet, his first new songs in three years became the most personal and diverse collection of his career.
Black and White America was written in reaction to a documentary Kravitz saw about racism in the post-Obama United States. Amidst the defiant lyrics, the songwriter references his own family history, and the experiences of his parents as an interracial couple in the 1960s. Though the sonic emphasis…
… of Black and White America may land squarely on the funk, the force behind such guitar-driven smashes as “Fly Away” and “Are You Gonna Go My Way” hasn’t turned his back on rock. Songs like “Rock Star City Life,” and the first single, “Stand,” give the album a healthy dose of crunching riffs. The overwhelming emotion on Black and White America is the feel of optimism, faith and hope.

CARLY SIMON / - Coming Around Again [1987]
Carly Simon - Coming Around Again [1987]
Coming Around Again is singer-songwriter Carly Simon's 14th album, and 13th studio album, released in 1987. It is her first of many albums for Arista Records. The title track and "Itsy Bitsy Spider" were both written for and featured in the 1986 film Heartburn.
The title song peaked at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Simon's twelfth Top 40 hit in the USA. It was also a success in Brazil as it was included in the soundtrack of telenovela O Outro. Additionally, it was a top 10 hit in the UK. The album itself reached #25 in both the US and the UK. It was certified Silver by the BPI in September 1987, and Platinum by the RIAA in early 1988. It has since sold nearly two million copies in the US.
Shortly after the album's release, a live outdoor concert also entitled "Carly Simon - Coming Around Again" was recorded in June 1987 at Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts and later released on video. On a pier in front of an invited audience, Simon and her band performed most of the songs from the album as well some of her older hits. The concert was also released as a live album in 1988 entitled Greatest Hits Live, and has also since been released on DVD as "Carly Simon - Live From Martha's Vineyard".

NEKTAR - REMEMBER THE FUTURE (1973, 2011 Deluxe Edition Remastered)
Nektar – Remember the Future (1973, 2011 Deluxe Edition Remastered)
Filed Under: deluxe edition, prog-rock, remastered
This deluxe/digitally remastered version of British progressive-rock band Nektar’s iconic Remember the Future (1973) features a full second disc with a live performance of other works, culled from a 2007 concert in Brazil.
The original two-part recording of Remember the Future, is followed by a live rendition, although no information is provided in the album notes, concerning the date or location. The album soared through the Billboard charts amid substantial global visibility and impressive sales. “Remember the Future” is a near flawless progressive-rock extravaganza, entwined with gutsy guitar parts, firm pulses, and tuneful hooks that echo the psychedelic era. With Roye Albrighton’s hard-rock crunch chords and airy vocals, the composition…
…translucently merges ethereal virtues with pumping grooves and memorable choruses. In one segment, Albrighton injects phased guitar voicings—quite popular during the day—into a rock waltz, amid Ravel-like progressions and whispery themes. Spiced with spacey romanticism, the reissue offers an enticing trip down memory lane, while reemphasizing the creative spark that enveloped the rock world in the 1970's.
