A recording to delight all admirers of Bach and the baroque oboe and a wonderful account of Heinz Holliger’s interpretive genius as a player: for many, he is the world’s greatest oboist. Factor in the long-established relationship between the Camerata Bern and Holliger which permits a real group understanding, Erich Hobarth’s exemplary violin, and superb ECM sound and we have here a special event. Holliger has recorded prolifically for the New Series, but this is his first disc for the label since the 1997 “Zelenka” album to address core classical repertoire, and these very popular pieces will find a broad public response.

The Animals - The Complete (1964-1967) [10 CDE BOX plus bonus CD,320]
The Animals were an English music group of the 1960s formed in Newcastle upon Tyne during the early part of the decade, and later relocated to London. Known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon – as exemplified by their number one signature song "The House of the Rising Sun" as well as by hits such as "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" and "It's My Life" – the band balanced tough, rock-edged pop singles against rhythm and blues-oriented album material. They became known in the United States as part of the British Invasion.
The Animals underwent numerous personnel changes in the mid-1960s and suffered from poor business management. Under the name Eric Burdon and the Animals, they moved to California and achieved commercial success as a psychedelic rock band, before disbanding at the end of the decade. Altogether, the group had ten Top Twenty hits in both the UK and US.
The original lineup had a brief comeback in 1977 and 1983. There have been several partial regroupings of the original era members since then under various names.

Former Grateful dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann played in this short-lived(?) band, basically a power-trio. I heard a couple of these tracks on a radio show and was hooked. Preserve the Blues and Ocean Laughter are especially catchy. The ballads are steamy. Not at all like the Grateful Dead, but an excellent CD!All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.

Recorded during Simon’s groundbreaking tours with Urubamba and the Jessy Dixon Singers in 1973-74, Live Rhymin’ includes two previously unavailable live tracks — “Kodachrome” and “Something So Right” — which have never appeared on the vinyl or CD editions of the album.
…All except the newly remastered and expanded Live Rhymin’ are duplicated from the 2004 Rhino editions, meaning that they’re a pass for longtime Simon fans. After a nearly 30-year absence, funk and soul icon Sly Stone is finally releasing a new album, and he’s bringing his fabled backing band, the Family Stone, with him. A couple years back, Cleopatra Records announced it had inked the soul superstar, but it wasn’t until now that the label had the finished product. The album, appropriately titled I’m Back! Family & Friends.The album — Stone’s first with the Family Stone since their break-up in the ’70s and first overall since his 1982 solo set, Ain’t But the One Way — doesn’t feature much new material, per se, but it does include some reworkings from the group and some of Stone’s famous friends. Doors organist Ray Manzarek shows up for a redo of “Dance to the Music,” while bassist extraordinaire Bootsy Collins pops by on “Hot Fun in the Summertime.” You can download the latter here. Other guests include Heart’s Ann Wilson, Johnny Winter and Jeff Beck. While you can peep the album’s tracklisting below, I’m Back! Family & Friends will also feature three to-be-named club mixes.
