DAVID BOWIE - TOY

Toy - The Album

Toy is the working title for Bowie's album consisting of remakes of some of his lesser-known "60's songs" along with two or three new songs written in the same style. Work has been completed on the recording of the songs, with mixing expected to be finished by mid-late November. It is expected to be released around March or April 2001.

Songs

The following information is taken from sources such as BowieNet and Mark Plati and is subject to modification.

There are expected to be twelve, possibly 13 tracks for the new album. Of these, ten are said to be remade songs from the 60's, while three are new compositions. Among the new compositions are songs called Afraid, Uncle Floyd and a currently untitled piece.

At least one of the tracks has a string arrangement by Tony Visconti.

ELVIN BISHOP / LIVE FROM KSAN

ELVIN BISHOP - RAISIN' HELL REVUE

Elvin Bishop is set to release the Raisin' Hell Revue live album on May 17. Recorded during t
he 2010 Legendary Blues Cruise, the album features blues veteran Finis Tasby (Lowell Fulson, Freddie King, Clarence Carter, Z.Z. Hill), fast-rising harmonica man John Németh (Anson Funderburgh, Junior Watson), Norwegian blues guitar star Chris (Kid) Anderson (Charlie Musselwhite's band), and Bishop's long-time band-mate and Bay Area legend, saxophonist Terry Hanck. And it really is a "revue" in the classic sense of the term - various band members representing a wide array of styles move in and out of the spotlight, including swinging up-tempo R&B, lowdown blues, rootsy rock ’n’ roll, and a touch of gospel; even a reworking of Bishop's smash hit "Fooled Around and Fell in Love". - jambase.com

Notes:
This show is a perfect soundboard recording of the second of a two night stand. The performers are all in good moods and playing extremely well; the sound quality on this is amazing! I really can't say enough good things about this one...it's a must have! There are various edits at spots througout the recording which suggests that there is a more complete copy in existence. To my knowledge, this is the complete performance of Steve with the Bluegrass Dukes. While I haven't seen Steve's solo set, the Tim O'Brien set is in circulation & I will be posting that very soon.Enjoy!

JOHN MCLAUGHLIN / CARLOS SANTANA - RECORDED LIVE IN CHICAGO 1974

John McLaughlin (born 4 January 1942, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England), also known as Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, is an English jazz and jazz fusion guitarist and composer. He played with Tony Williams's group Lifetime and then with Miles Davis on his landmark electric jazz-fusion albums In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew, A Tribute to Jack Johnson and On The Corner. His 1970s electric band, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, performed a technically virtuosic and complex style of music that fused eclectic jazz and rock with eastern and Indian influences. His guitar playing includes a range of styles and genres, including jazz, Indian classical music, fusion, and Western classical music, and has influenced many other guitarists. He has also incorporated flamenco music in some of his acoustic recordings. The Indian tabla maestro Zakir Hussain has called John McLaughlin "one of the greatest and one of the important musicians of our times". In 2010, Guitarist Jeff Beck called him "the best guitarist alive". In 2003, McLaughlin was ranked 49th in Rolling Stone magazine list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
